Hierarchy columns
Have a quick question...
I know I can set a custom column to display as a hierarchy... but what about preset fields likes series or publisher? I'd love to be able to set the publisher field as a hierarchy to display publisher.bookline information |

I'm not sure if I'm missing something... I can go in thru the GUI and set "publisher" to display as a hierarchy... but it doesn't. It works for any of my custom columns that are text based/tag based columns.

Hierarchy is not supported in the columns 'authors', 'publisher', 'news', 'formats', or 'rating'.

hmmm would there be any luck in putting in a wish list for publisher to be supported for hierarchy? 'cause ya know... I'm inherently lazy *grins impishly* and I hate having to have a second column when one would work so well.

What are you trying to do? Represent imprints as subitems of the owning house? Given that publisher is a single-valued field, you can get nearly the same thing using something like House:Imprint. There only difference is the little triangle that would hide the imprints.

I just PUT the Imprint (name) in the Publisher column.
Like Tags, this downloaded metadata is a Hodge-Podge of a mess. The Randy-Penguin Putnam Group Oh my ![]() (This was the reason I asked Kovid for the option to reuse the same viewer window. I open each book, find the publishers titlepage or copyright page, and glean the value. Since a few of these pages are images, a script is not as effective as eyeball Mk II ) Great metadata requires Hand Finishing TLC ![]() |

I'm not sure if this would work, but you could try creating a column made of other columns to mirror the publisher, then set the new column as a hierarchy.
You would end up with a duplicate column in the book list, but at least you wouldn't have to maintain them both. You could still be as lazy as you want. ![]() |
