Kobo is awesome!

Awhile go I had a couple of Kobo readers but I had problems with the software, the battery and most importantly ebook pricing.

So I had given up on it for a couple of years. But then a few months ago I bought a Kobo Glo HD. The software is polished, the ebook pricing is now good, and being able to make the font bold and left justified makes it so easy to read. I also liked setting narrow margins to increase the line width.

I then bought a Kobo Aura H2O and wow it is nearly perfect. That size is just right, it really feels luxurious to read on.

I find it so wonderful to read on my Kobo ereaders that I'm reading on my Kindle (Paperwhite) less and less.

I'm with you on this. I have a KPW as well, and I much prefer to read on my Kobo Glo HD. The overall typography, customization, and feel of ebooks makes for a better reading experience for me.

Just to mention, Kobo now has price matching in most areas. Should you find a book you've purchased cheaper elsewhere within 7 days Kobo will give you the difference plus 10% in store credit.

Glad you're so happy with your H2O. I feel pretty much the same way about mine.

I still think the software (OS) can be so much better, but ye, the total package is quite well these days.

I saw that recently, that makes me happy that they are filling in the cracks like that. In particular, I've started reading Neal Asher novels and there is a significant disparity between the pricing on Amazon and Kobo on his books.

Not that long ago the prices on Kobo ebooks used to be so awful. It's good to see them finally become competitive.

I fully agree with you.
I've been reading ebooks for quite a couple of years, using Bookeen, several Pocketbook Readers, Sony PRS1 and PRS2, but Kobo is by far the best I've ever had.

I mostly agree and I believe that software stability has increased quite a bit too... I only wish they would allow users to upload their own ebooks into their cloud and have them available on phones and computers as well without sideloading...

You're right amazon does that but kobo does not. I always buy straight from the kobo store so I didn't notice that before.

That is the one piece of functionality that would switch me from Amazon for good.

Has there been any improvement in the two issues that led to me selling my H2O?

1. Extremely difficult to select a small hyperlink in an ePub book, eg to read a footnote. 90% of the time, when I tapped the hyperlink, it would result in turning the page, not activating the hyperlink.

2. The excessively long "Processing Books" process when you load new books. I transferred a few hundred books from Calibre and it took several hours before I could use the reader.

There hasn't been any changes with this.

Probably. There were one or two firmware versions where the processing was very slow. That was probably about when the Aura H2O was released. The current firmware is a lot faster.

I have Glo HD, not Aura H2O, but there are similar problems with footnotes on epub. However, you can easily fix it by converting epubs to kepubs, which handle footnotes extremely well.

I am new to the ereading device. H2O is my very first device, and I don't know how good/bad the kindle (or others) is. But so far I love my H2O. Reading H2O is much better than reading with paper books under the sun.

If kobo can support cloud access and download, it would be very nice.

BTW, reading pdf and cbr is not a good experience. Is it because of the e-ink technology not being good enough to handle graphic stuffs? or is it because the devices are not using the good chips to build with? Hopefully, more powerful ereaders would be coming to markets soon.

Kobo does support cloud access, from various sources, including direct from your Kobo account of course. The web browser is found under Settings > Beta Features, and from there you can get books from Project Gutenberg, from your Dropbox, from your Calibre Content Server etc.

I suggest a tablet or phablet for a better experience with your PDFs and comics.
