Software, firmware or what?
Glo is on 3.15 whatever the last numbers of that build were.
The screen is acting strangely. It's hard to turn a page - like the pressure sensors aren't working. Try to go back, it will go back 2 or 3 pages, the same with forward. Put it into sleep mode yesterday, today it opened with the wrong book, and didn't want to connect to its library. Turned it off and on got the book I was reading. Wifi is off, has been off since the last 3.15 update - so nothing has been able to sneak on as malware. Is this the hardware for the screen? or is the software buggy now? I just bought a new book from Kindle (Kobo doesn't have it) and converted via Calibre. The book displays just fine so it doesn't look like converting newer books causes the problem. Most of my other books are from Creative Commons, or Smashwords and its ilk. Will buy from Baen. No, I haven't hacked it. Too lazy. I'm also not connected with Kobo reader on the PC. I've renamed the exe file so it won't run, but haven't uninstalled it. I go directly to the card through Calibre. Last edited by Alpha o; 02-19-2016 at 08:53 AM. |

Sounds like you may have a corrupted data base. How it happened though is anybody's guess. So if you have a good copy of your data base You can restore it from calibre if you using the extended kobo driver. If not log out on your device and log back in. Your device will rebuild the book data base, wont take too long if you have a small number of books. I have over 5000 ebooks and it can take quite some time on my device, so much in fact I have to plug it in to do the job.
Good luck Jack |

The Kobo Glo touch system uses infrared beams, not pressure. You might try cleaning under the bezel around the screen with either a soft brush or canned air to see if any dust or crumbs are lodged under the bezel. That also can cause the behavior you've described.

I have camelhair brushes, but is the canned air safe? It's the propellant that usually causes the problems. I do have a Rocket Blower - made for DSLR sensor cleaning. I also saw the post about using a cover. I have one, but don't trust it to work. I have to keep checking on it. I can try that. I might have deleted my Kobo account. I'll have to check. |

I've always used canned air and never had a problem with any reader. Of course don't keep blowing the air under the bezel after it starts to feel very cold from propellant, usually holding it perfectly upright gives you the longest time the air will remain warm, don't tip the can at all or hold it sideways. DSLR blowers often have a soft brush attached, so that will be safe to use as well.
I always use a cover with my readers, it's so much easier to just flip the cover closed and not have to bother turning off any switch, then just open again to read. Doing that also means far less wear and tear on the switch. The cover should always put the reader into sleep mode when you close it. You can still peek under it to double check that the light has gone off if you still want to ![]() |

This didn't used to be the case (no pun intended) but I can't say if it started with a particular version of firmware. It is, however, very annoying. BobC |

I know there was a firmware relatively recently that caused the light to linger considerably after the reader was put to sleep, it was every device with a light, though that seems to have been resolved in the recent firmware releases. Perhaps reapply the current firmware? |

I've seen it happen on my regular Glo readers, they're still on 3.17, but not on the Glo HDs (at least not yet). They (regular Glos) also have an even more annoying bug of the light staying on when you connect to the PC to charge. Just disconnecting and reconnecting several times until the light goes out fixes it.

With the suggestion to check the version of firmware I had I did go online to make sure and my firmware was up to date. A by product to this check was that the Glo performed a sync, not something I normally do as all my books are sideloaded.
Since then the light has been extinguished by the sleep cover. This might be a coincidence but who cares - my problem has gone away (at least for now) BobC |
