Any way to manage collections on PC for latest PW?

Hi,

Not sure if this has been asked a bunch, but every time I search, I get more confused.

If I buy the latest Paperwhite with the latest firmware, is there any Windows program (or website) that can manage collections for the PW? I have a ton of collections, and can't stand the idea of doing it on-device.

I guess I've been spoiled by my jailbroken Kindle-Keyboard and Calibre.

Thanks for any info.

You can manage your collections in "Kindle for PC"; the collections will then be available on the Kindle. Obviously this only applies to content bought from Amazon; K4PC has no support for personal documents.

I found out that the best way to manage collections is to use Kindle for iPad app (or for Android). Creating collections, adding/removing content works like a charm. Collections are now stored in the cloud, so all the changes will be reflected on the Kindle reader.

Of course it will only work for the books from Kindle Store and those which have been sent to the cloud.

@sbarnhar: If your get new Kindle that is still on fw 5.6.5 you can jailbreak it and have Calibre (via Kindle Collections plugin, just like before) generated collections imported to your Kindle by using LibrarianSync KUAL extension on your Kindle.

The difference is that extra step / extra requirement of using LibrarianSync to import Calibre generated json file to device's collection database/catalog, instead of Kindle Collection plugin directly manipulating device's collection data/ json file... (And maybe Kindle 3 didn't need to be jailbreak-ed to be able to use Calibre plugin, because collection file was on /mnt/us/system ?) if I'm remembering my Kindle 3 days correctly.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. Most of my content is sideloaded, non-Amazon content, so I don't think the first two suggestions will work well for me.

shamanNS - are people still finding new Kindle Paperwhites with that version of 5.6.5? If so, I guess I need to hit all the local stores.

Thanks again for the feedback, everyone.

Amazon loads the current firmware onto the Kindle right before packaging it, so assuming most Kindles sold to day are still from the stock that they had before the firmware update you should be fine.

Just make sure not to connect to WiFi before you are ready to do the jailbreak.

Hello,

In the option described by @sbarnhar, anyone knows if the same collections in the Kindle device managed through Calibre and the extension will appear on Kindle for Android?

You might get better feedback in the Calibre subforum.

AIUI, the various ways of modifying collections ourselves are incompatible with Cloud Collections. So that would be a non.
