Reader with music

I have the Kindle 7th generation(KT2), but I want something slightly smaller, and something that can play music.

Should I get an e-ink android tablet? I really want frontlight(like the Kindle Paperwhite) as well. Is there anything around $150?

There are no current eInk devices with screens smaller than 6". Perhaps you should consider a large-screen phone instead?

Note that no eInk devices are backlit, because eInk screens are opaque. Illuminated eInk devices are frontlit.

For playing music, I think I would go with an mp3 player or a cheap smartphone.
Is this music you have downloaded or will you be using the Internet?

I have them downloaded. I already have an mp3 player, but I kind of want one device for both. Maybe just a tablet/large smartphone?

FWIW, the Nook Simple Touch (display screen 6") when rooted and modded with an enhanced kernel can play and stream audio (see https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...6&postcount=10).

Hmm.

I do have both pulp novels and radio plays of "The Shadow" on my old Aztak Pocket Pro.

The screen isn't up to today's standard though.

I use the Fire HDX for reading, magazines, audiobooks, music and newspaper. Sometimes even surfing. It is harder on the eyes and can't be used in sunlight and is a problem sometimes with indoor lighting. It's no longer sold, but I'm just saying that a small tablet is really what you want. You won't be able to get an e-ink reader though as none of them have sound anymore (Kindle Keyboard only does text-to-speech and whispersync audiobooks, no music).

There are eInk devices with sound. Not "mainstream", but they are certainly available. One such model is the Onyx T68+.
