Help Moving Calibre To Upgraded Computer

Hi,
I finally upgraded to a new computer and now I need to move my 35, 000 ebooks. I looked at the help section and it said to used the import and export function to copy the files and then just take that folder to the new computer. However, I brougth this thing called "wormhole" and it lets you share data between computers. So, Can I just take the old calibre library and move it to the new computer via this way? Then when I install Calibre on the new computer will everything look the same?

Please help me. I'm very new about this type of thing.

If both are on the same network, just COPY the Library Folder over (for free).

The FAQ also has a tip on how to do the configurarion folder.

BUT WAIT there is more
Very Recent Calibre builtin a tool to backup and restore Libraries and settings
So if the old computer is running Release: 2.47 [21 Dec, 2015] or later it is easy-peasy

Click on the Library icon. it will be the item just above the line (and yes, you should be able to run this with the destination on a TEMP folder. Then run the tool (import mode) on the new computer

The computers aren't on the same network. I don't even know how to do that.
and the old computer is running calibre 2.50.1.

So, should i use the usb cord (wormhole switch) that lets me share the files?

The new Import/Export feature is basically a shortcut for moving the library and settings from one computer to another.


You can still do that all manually (if you really, truly want to), see How do I backup calibre? for the necessary bits to backup, then restore them on the new computer.

I wouldn't bother with doing it manually, though.

We used to call things like that: Laplink cables (those came in 2 flavors: Serial and Parallel. Both are missing from many modern computers) which was how we used to sync our laptops with the desktop (even over a Modem).


and that is a personal (2 device) network of sorts. So yes, just copy the Calibre backup over
