Adjusting 'text weight' on Kindle Paperwhite

I just ordered a Kobo Glo HD, because I am fed up with Amazon that I cannot downgrade,

and just found the exact feature that was the reason for my new purchase, and was missing from my Kindle; adjusting 'text weight'. I never knew how to call this, but it is the best feature on the Kobo and this is the exact reason why I don't like the look of the text on my Kindle.

Now, is there a way I can adjust 'text weight' on a jailbroken Kindle Paperwhite 2? It is very similar to the 'boldness' of text not exactly the same, as it also kind of involves the blurriness/sharpness of the text.

This would be a great feature if I could adjust it somehow on my Kindle.

Here's a pic from the Kobo:

Many thanks in advance!

For a Kindle, you would have to adjust the weight in a font editor before you used the font. That's all you can do.

For your Kobo, you'll want to apply the patches so you can adjust the weight of side loaded truetype fonts.

Not everybody likes reading a book with a sans-serif font. And even for those that do, they don't all like Helvetica.

In fairness, with the font hack it should not be too hard to get something you like on your Kindle. Personally I am using a nice bold Georgia font on my jail-broken Voyage.

Uhhh, please no Helvetica.

I use Caecilia most of the time, just because that was the original and I got used to it.
However, with the original firmware my Kindle had shipped the font rendering was different, it was less sharp and the boundaries were less prominent (i.e., more comfortable to read). That's why I still desperately want to downgrade, but unfortunately it is not a possibility at the moment.

Anyways, thanks for the answers!

So, have you tried out the font hack yet?

Does the font hack allow you to change the weight of fonts on the fly?? I thought that it only allowed you to install new fonts on the device, and from what I've read from Nijule's posts, it's not very safe to do.

The ability to change the weight of fonts on the fly is my very favorite thing about my Kobo, and also the best thing (to me) about Moon reader on Android, and my one greatest "wish list" item for my Kindle.

It allows you to install fonts with a weight you prefer... same as it always did...
