Ereader with light, nontouchscreen
Hi. I Have a problem. I am looking for a very basic ereader. It has to:
-have a light, -not have a touchscreen (eventually buttons + ability to turn off the touchscreen), -be able to read polish signs. I am in UK now, so there is probably no problem with shipping. I have found only one ereader that meets the criteria, but I heard its low quality - Kiano Bookylight. Thanks for any advice. Cheers. |

You won't find such a Reader. All the ones with a front light also have a touch screen. Most do not have buttons for page turns and those that do such as the Kindle Voyage do not have a way to turn off the screen.

You wil find such a reader:
Buy one of the PocketBook models with buttons, e.g. the Touch Lux 3, and install brucelee's CoolReader3 fork. In CoolReader, you can set the action that should be performed when you tap on one of the tap zones (i.e. parts of the screen). One of the options you have is 'no action'. So, if you set all tap zones to 'no action' you have what you want. |

Sounds like a good solution. I will think about it. If I won't find anything else, I will probably do as You say

No, but it has buttons. I saw/tested it in a shop, looked good. I'm extremely happy with Legimi, I don't buy, convert or backup books anymore.

It will not work for me then. I have read a lot of opinions about touchscreen in ereader. Its a weird idea to put touchscreen into ereader. Its not needed, its only disturbing.

I think you mean it's "not needed, its [sic] disturbing" for YOU. Most people find it perfectly fine, as do I. However, some people - such as yourself - are bothered by it. |

Although I guess it *may* need to be updated for the Voyage? Definitely for the Paperwhite, since it doesn't have a home button or the new page turn buttons. Obviously, the aforementioned PocketBook models will be easier since you do not need to jailbreak over a serial port first... |

I have severe coordination problems, severe sensory problems, and chronic migraines. I have to be very careful to avoid accidental tapping and accidental gestures. If I trigger flashing or zooming, the device will trigger migraines. Not fun.
So some of us can be more than "bothered" by touch. That said, I used an Icarus Illumina e653, and only had a couple zooming problems before it broke. I wish there were more button-only devices, but I wouldn't rule out button+touch. |

Hi ...many of the newer models have built in glow-light, check out YouTube reviews links below.
-"not have a touchscreen"? again many have both touch screen and buttons, hence you don't need to use the Touch screen if you don't want to. -"be able to read polish signs", do you mean read out polish text voice-to-text or be able to display polish text, if the later then most problably will be OK, the inplication of you question suggests partial sightedness ? but be aware that Kindles will restrict the file formats. I have an older Nook Glow-light, buttons, touch screen, light etc I'd look at Youtube reviews from https://www.youtube.com/user/goodereader or https://www.youtube.com/user/TheeBookReader. What ever eReader you settle on, I recommend that for organizing and/or changing file formats etc the very best and free program for the PC is CALIBRE. Hope this helps |
