New Sony PRS505 needed! But from where?

Hi all,

My PRS500 was broken in transit from Kuwait City, I now need to buy a new PRS505, but being in Australia I have to buy it sight unseen from a reputable dealer in the US. Can anyone suggest one that will sell me the latest version and not palm off something obsolete or second hand. I cannot buy it direct from Sony because they do not sell them outside the US.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Cheers
John

A lot of people here have bought a Sony Reader from B&H Photo. No complaints so far.

They also have a 'Calculate Shipping' which shows up as $40.65 to get it to Aus. This seems to be about the standard for shipping one to Aus, I've been looking around lately and pretty much always get shipping quoted as ~US$40-45.

I bought one on ebay from a seller called cybertechstore. About $45 shipping to Australia as I remember.

How much was the unit itself? B&H has them for US$294.95, but I've seen an eBay seller called datavis_sales selling them for US$279. (though they charge US$49 shipping)

Better value than the Aussie seller who is trying to sell them for AU$399

I'd like to add my vote for buying from B&H. I bought my Sony 505 from them last Christmas - I was very happy with the service and delivery.

Buying from an individual on eBay, you don't know what you're getting. It's not worth saving a few dollars only to find you've been sent a second hand unit, or nothing at all!

If the ebay seller is related to 'Datavision' (http://www.datavis.com/), I had a good purchase experience with the company. In January, I ordered one unit from Datavision on Friday night and found that the website specified that they do not ship on Saturdays. In that case, I could not get the unit in time before my flight to Korea. I called the company on Saturday morning and explained the situation and they sent out the unit on Saturday against their shipping policy.

Of course, I did not ask them to ship internationally, but if it is the same company that I purchased from, I think the company is quite recommendable.

However, I would recommend you to go to the website and order directly from there instead of ebay seller since the ebay seller may be related to Datavision or may be an imposter.

Unfortunately they don't seem to:

Does anyone know of a way around this? I think I've heard of a UPS service where they'll take delivery of a package in the US and then forward it on to you internationally, I can't seem to find anything about it though. I'm guessing they probably charge you a small fortune for it.

There are a number of services that provide you with a US 'address' where they're forward internationally, but while I found some websites, I didn't use any but rather ended up buying direct from B&H, shipped to the UK, when I bought mine last year.

Thanks everybody, I shall go with B&H. I think its seems to be the most viable solution. I must admit I had never heard of them until I posed this and I buy a lot of stuff online

Cheers
