Troubleshooting Auto Update oops

I've been contentedly using my mobileread KUAL kindle pw2 hack for the last 2 years now. All I really use it for is to have custom screensavers of the books I've read. I wanted to see the price of Lord of the Rings on the store (I was curious if the version were different than the one I had) and next thing I know, the kindle's auto-updating. Great.

Well, now the screensavers are back to default, but when plugged in, I can see everything still there in their folders. Has the jailbreak for this recent update been released yet or is this still in the works? I saw a post from October saying there were some liability issues or something releasing it. Is that true or am I crazy?

It's not the end of the world. I can still read and now I have that new font; I just miss the screensavers is all.

Reread the jailbreak thread -- there is a "hotfix" linked from the OP, which you can use to resurrect an out-of-date jailbreak that was hit by the 5.6.x firmware updates.

As a general rule of thumb -- you will always need to reinstall a hack (e.g. screensavers) but you shouldn't need to reinstall the jailbreak itself.

firmware 5.6.x is an exception because we had a sudden and unexpected need to run as root instead of defaulting to framework. Hence the hotfix, which updates your jailbreak to include gandalf (your friendly neighborhood passwordless su binary).
