K4 bricked?

My K4 stopped working last night. Wouldn't turn on, so I held power for 40 secs to reset, then the Kindle gets stuck on the tree screen. Progress indicator gets to about 20% and then stops (waited over an hour for it to finish booting).

So I found Kubrick 3.6 and downloaded the live CD. Launched it on an old PC and it recognized the K4, then successfully puts it into fastboot mode and then says it flashed the diags, but when it reboots to enter diag mode I get the same result -- it hangs on the "tree" screen with progress indicator stuck at around 20%.

Any suggestions on what to try next?

When is the last time you charged it?
Plug it into a wall charger and leave it alone for several hours.

It was almost fully charged. I plug it in every night so it always has a full charge, and had only been reading about 30 mins when it died.

wifi was on. I was reading during commercials, then would power off during TV show, back and forth. One of the times I tried to power back on to continue reading, it didn't turn on (stayed on the screensaver showing an Amazon ad).
