I just found this great site and registered. New to Calibre, and still learning.
I use Calibre to change the format of my purchased e books. Mostly from epub to azw3 and from azw3 to epub. After I convert them with Calibre, I export them into my documents folder (in different subfolders). I notice that Calibre also moves a copy of the original format. All I want is 3 files within the subfolder. For instance, I want to have only epub document, jpg and opf. it is very time consuming to go to each subfolder and delete this extra original file. ![]() When I move these subfolders to my e readers, I'd like to have only one format. E pub files for Nexus, and azw3 files for Kindle Fire. I will appreciate if one of the gurus here show me how to make changes with calibre when I export these converted books. Thank You kindly. ![]() |

Under the Save to Disk options (click on the arrow next the icon) you should be able to select whichever format you want to export.
or.... Preferences - Import/Export/Saving Books to Disk. Set File formats to save to whichever format you want to export. or... why not just use calibre to sideload your books to your devices. It should automatically sideload the correct format. |

As Higgs mentioned
Calibre is a Library Manager, Why not let it do its job... Manage your Library. ![]() For most reader devices, Send to device is the simplest way. Each device (series) has a preferred format setting (usually, the default configuration is good, but if you have had Calibre installed for some time and later upgrade your model, you might revisit what is now the best. eg older Kindles:Mobi. Newer Kindles: AZW3) ![]() ![]() Conversions LOSE finer details (formatting). Converting a conversion speeds that up ![]() ![]() |

You also want to stop Calibre from updating the metadata when you save to disk.
Preferences > Saving books to disk > Update metadata in saved copies (uncheck) If you do not do this, you get a modification on every save. Not a good idea. |
