Hello
I have an epub file that is maybe encrypted ( I don't know what is wrong with it exactly )
I tried to open it with calibre, ADE, Epubreader ( on windows ) and also with kobo Ereader and no one could open it.

can any one help and teach me to open it ?

Since I'm running Linux and not Windows I decided to have a careful look at your file. This file is not an epub, despite the file extension. It is actually a zip archive which when opened shows some html and other files, which appear to contain nonsense. A quick look with a text editor shows one string which may have something to do with livid, a download manager.

Forget it. It is not an epub.

thank you for your time and response

there is an application in my country that sells books on android and IOS phone and tablet, this app previously had a bug that give you the book file( in epub format) , so I can copy it elsewhere and read for example on Ebook reader, but recently after latest update the file you can copy become encrypted or DRM secured or ...

the file i sent above is driven this way

I'm surprised to hear that its not an epub file. and as you know better than me epub files are like zip-archived-file, you can change the extension and see inside of them

in order to reducing the possibility of mistakes I put another file [Link removed] that has same problem like the previous one

barobach_so, I removed the links in your posts as I assume they were attempts to post a copyrighted ebook. Forgive me if I'm in error, and I realize as a legitimate purchaser you intended no harm, but MobileRead doesn't allow the uploading of copyrighted material. I also realize this makes it much harder for people to help you with this problem, and I apologize for that, but rules are rules.

hi
I forgive you but it makes me to not tell all of the truth or maybe lie next time

anyway let's go back to the subject, If anyone can help me I can send this mysterious EPUB file in another way ( private msg , email,..) that doesn't cross forum red lines

I will elaborate. The Linux file command will identify drm protected Adobe epubs as epub files. If unzipped, the contents of the Adobe protected epub files do appear to be similar to the contents of your file. However, the file command identifies this as a zip file rather than an epub one. Likewise, trying to open an Adobe drm protected file with Calibre's Ebook viewer produces an error message that the Book is protected by DRM. Opening your file in Calibre's Ebook viewer produces an error about missing spine contents.

I may not have been correct to say that it is not an epub, though both Calibre and the Linux file command seem to normally identify even an encrypted epub as such. It may simply be missing something that these programs expect to see.

It appears that your application is now using DRM. Without knowing the application and the type of drm being used you will not have much luck. What is the application? Can you read only in the application?

Apprentice Alf has been invaluable to many of our members, as has his Guide to the Purplexed which can be found on his homepage. We're not allowed to give technical details on de-DRMing here, but he's under no such restrictions.

Unfortunately a quick web search reveals no information on what DRM scheme they are using. As it does not appear they are using Adobe it is probable that no one has "cracked" this DRM scheme as yet. Apprentice Alf is unlikely to be of help. If Taaghche have just introduced drm, then your best bet may be to revert to the earlier version of the app and re-download the books in question. However, it may be that the app has always supported drm but the books you have downloaded in the past did not use it, in which case reverting to an earlier version will not help.

Good luck.

hi
thank you for ypur reply
as you predict Alf couldn't help and gave this error
"calibre, version 2.47.0
ERROR: Could not open ebook: No valid entries in the spine of this EPUB

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "site-packages\calibre\gui2\viewer\main.py", line 37, in run

File "site-packages\calibre\ebooks\conversion\plugins\epub_in put.py", line 254, in convert
ValueError: No valid entries in the spine of this EPUB
"
there are other software in alf page and I will test them

I think as you said I should change my strategy and make a post in some apple forum about removing appleID from an IPa file ( I already have an old version IPA )

but thank you all

You could post the opf file. Perhaps there is a clue there.

Please check the OPF in our wiki. The ePub format requires an text XML file with proper tags.
