Missing pulldown menus?
Hi
I am having one weird issue. Everything works fine as instended except that sometime after opening Calibre I loose the pulldown menus. For instance I press e and try to open the trim menu, no pulldown list shows up. This is same for all te pulldown menus in Calibre. The only solution is to restart it. After a restart I get all those pulldown menus back. However they sure disappear after certain time. And I am really not sure how long it takes until this issue happens after a fresh start. Did anyone else have this issue too? Btw I am on Debian Linux x64./ thanks Last edited by loviedovie; 12-24-2015 at 01:29 PM. |

Why is it showing errors trying to communicate with an X server? Is your X11 setup broken or unusual?

Are you seeing different menus after a device is connected and before its removed? calibre has different menus for wjhen no device is connected and when one is connected.

@loviedovie:
The reason appears to be that your installation of the Recoll Full Text Search plugin has this problem: Quote:
Your log shows that you are using Calibre 2.47, which uses PyQt5.Qt. Qt is the GUI toolkit that creates everything you see, including menus. Manually delete the .zip for Recoll Full Text Search from the configuration directory for plugins, and restart Calibre. If all is well, that was the problem. DaltonST |

@eschwartz
I am using it under x2go session. The Xserver is abit limited due to Opengl limitations I believe howver Calibre works for hours before loosing the menus. @DaltonST I will try your solution. @PeterT I am not attaching any devices. This happens when no device attached |

@DaltonST
That did not help at all ;( Somehow some hours later I loose puldown menus. I do not attach or detach devices or do any other thing between a fresh restart and loosing the menus. The menu icons are there but clicking on any of the menus with a pulldown window does not do anything. The weird thing is that the debug does not create any debug event either. |

![]() But to double-check, you can start calibre with Code:
calibre --ignore-plugins Afraid I don't know why the menus would break for you though. ![]() That X11 error still looks weird to me. Quote:
As for custom kernels vs. generic kernels, WTF is a generic kernel anyway. Every kernel out there makes a choice about how to build, and the kernel developers don't bless any one choice. ![]() The specific kernel config blessed by Debian sid is no more likely to fix this than the config options turned on/off by the OP's custom changes. The kernel is not supposed to be configured to break userspace ![]() I might expect the boot process to error out, but not calibre... (Actually my boot did recently break, but that was a kernel bug not a -ck bug.) Last edited by eschwartz; 12-26-2015 at 08:56 PM. |
