Kobo as remote keyboard for smartphone
Hi,
I'm investigating the possibility of using my kobo (aura) ereader as a keyboard for my android phone eg when traveling and I have both with me anyway. Not sure how that experience would be, but I cannot imagine a full screen kobo keyboard + a full remaining screen for the android app would be worse than a small split screen android keyboard ![]() One possible path would be to use the "remote keyboard" app on the phone which just runs a telnet server and accepts input from a telnet client connecting to a specific port. So now I 'only' need some kind of full screen keyboard for the kobo that forwards the keystrokes over a telnet connection. Anything that could be used for that ? Or any projects I can start from to make such a thing ? Thanks, Bram |

Typing "virtual keyboard" in Github search = 373 results. "touchscreen keyboard" = 18 returned projects. There is also "busybox".

You can try looking into the source code for QtFrotz. The main benefit of using this as a starting point is that it is developed for Kobo devices.

not sure about telnet server, but for android there seems to be an app (smartwho remote keyboard) that supports web browsers, so it might work with the kobo browser.
if it has to be telnet, and you still wanted to use the kobo browser, you could use my webportal mod to write a cgi-bin in busybox shell that translates browser input to telnet/netcat somehow. |
