Thoughts on doing a promo on January 1st?

I'm debating doing a paid promo for my ebook on January 1st. It's a self-help / self-improvement book.

I figured a lot of people are home because it's a holiday.

Then I got worried that people will be out with family, not checking the internet, etc.

I tried googling so many search terms and found nothing. Is New Years Day traditionally a good or bad day for web traffic, web shopping, etc? Or is it average.

Quick answer,
Yes for some, no for others.
Not so quick answer,
It depends on the book, the promotion, the price, and how many others are doing the same thing.

In all honesty, if you just drop the book price and do no advertising the answer is more than likely no.
You might get a few extra sales. Though since you said it is a self help book and New Year's is typically resolution day, you might have some luck.

Yes, sorry if I wasn't clear, I'm planning on paying for a pretty significant email/website promotion on that day, to spread the word. I'm also dropping price to $0.99.

My book genre is self-improvement (non fiction) which I think fits this time of year very well.

Do you mean you will email your subscribers or do you have email advertisers lined up?
I figured you were doing 99 cents.
Now will you be just dropping the price for that day or will you leave it dropped until the 3rd to give everyone time to read their emails?

I'm paying a service to promote it, and they use their email list and website. Like Bookbub for an example (not them though, I wish haha!)

Now that you mention it, I'll drop it to 99 cents and leave it all weekend probably, so through to Jan 3 or 4. Seems wise to do.

If it's "How to Stop Drinking Too Much," or a book of hangover cures, you may have a shot. :-)

Seriously, the post-Christmas market is quite good for eBook sales, BUT, having said that, that's heavily dependent upon the book itself. Genre, or type, area of self-help, etc. For many, Dec. 26th is the biggest sales day of the year. People get new devices, and Kindle gift cards to buy new books with. They spend like maniacs. BUT...it's hard to know if your book would fall into that "buy buy buy" period.

I doubt that helps, but...offered for what it's worth.
