Translations not include in calibre but found at Transifex

Hi,

The calibre interface in my computer uses es language. I've found some strings which aren't translated (they appear in English) as 'Rename %s in virtual library" or "Delete %s in virtual library". When I signin at transifex, however, all the strings are translated. I've checked these two and they are really translated, I don't know which the problem is, but there are some strings, at the editor too.

You have to wait. Translations are only updated at every release. So any translations made after the last release will not show up in calibre.

es_MX or es?

The former do not currently have translations in https://github.com/kovidgoyal/calibre-translations (last updated shortly before calibre 2.45 was released).

es, and yes, it's strange that Spanish appears as a language but you can only collaborate with es_MX.

Edit: it has translations... from 7 months ago. It looks like, at some moment, the es language has been removed. How can it be added again?

I have no idea. I glory in my 'murican ignorance of foreign languages.

On the other hand, grepping a po file for specified strings doesn't violate my beliefs.

Mine either... as I've already done it for translating some plugins

Anyway, if I download the current es.po and define the environment variable CALIBRE_TEST_TRANSLATION to find that file, strings are translated. But if I leave calibre alone, those strings are not translated

I'm afraid this is not a problem of the po file...

I cannot reproduce this, for example

CALIBRE_OVERRIDE_LANG=es calibre-debug -c "print _('Rename %s in virtual library')"

Cambiar el nombre de %s en la biblioteca virtual

For me, the result of the above command is: 'Rename %s in virtual library'.

I only can guess that I'm overriden the translations in any way I don't remember now... Where can I find the way calibre looks for po files? Aside of CALIBRE_TRANSLATION_TEST, that I've already tested and it works.

That would be the other way of using a po file, by putting it in the home directory (or, working directory calibre was launched from) -- right?

I assume you don't mean a custom shortcut.

(Not dissing shortcuts. I use a shortcut myself, to make sure I always run in debug mode -- just in case.)

Honestly

I much prefer unix shellscript-in-PATH overrides.
Much easier to tell when they're there, for one.

If you're going to use customized shortcuts, for gosh sakes name them something funky!

...

Anyway, that doesn't explain why Kovid's calibre-debug code didn't work for you.
