OK finally got my IPad aid 2 last night. I could not believe how late it was before UPS showed up. It was almost 8:00 pm. I am loving the IPad and I am glad my wife talked me in to the larger screen. I also have the Belkin pro keybrd. The compo makes it into a really nice small laptop when needed. I also went on to the Amazon site and found a nice small carrying case that is perfect for the IPad and keybrd case compo. And it has a pocket that can hold the cables and power plugs. I am now as this point kicking myself for not get an IPad much sooner. And the fact that my IPhone and IPad work together so well is just the icing on the cake.

Glad you're enjoying it. When I travel, which I do a lot, the iPad serves all my needs as a computer. Wonderful device.

Slowly make changes now that I am retired.
I have been playing with, troubleshooting, learning, and cussing computers. For a very long time. My first computer was the TRS-80 way back in and around 1980 or so. I think I have had more than my share of the Trash-80s. That was when if you wanted to do anything with them you had to write your own programs. Well I started by just copying in a program you could find in a book. And this was before the internet as we know it. Then I would take a program that I could find the code for and change the code to do other things. Then along came the IBM PC, and I started going to computer flea markets and getting parts and building my own computers or recreating computers. That was the fun days of computers. Then I became crazy and decided to switch from being an Electronics Technician, and turn myself into a software and computer troubleshooter and support person. I never realized that I would be forever taking test and certifying and recertifying and recertifying. And the expense of it all is crazy. I have and still do, mess with MS windows, Linux, and now Apple IOS. When I was seeing the big picture that I was getting to the end of the line with my career. I joked with the ones that I worked with that I was going to ditch Microsoft and get and IPhone and IPad. Well that has happened I now have both? But I also still have windows 10 and one of the latest Linux distros, and even my wife has an android phone and tablet. Now that I have the IPhone and the IPad and I see how they work together so great, all I want to do is use them. The only thing I do not have is a Mac. Well may someday that too will be in the cards who knows. For now and for the foreseeable future we will have windows due to my wife’s sewing machines, seems they only will talk to the windows systems. But IOS is so simple and easy to use I am loving it. |

Welcome to the JOY of retirement where every night is Friday nite and every day is Saturday!
I remember the "trash talk" among TRS, Commodore and Atari owners back in the '80's. Out of the three companies, TRS-RadioShack is the only one still around, so you made a good choice. I had a Timex-Sinclair ZX81, then an Atari 800XL. In those days, "peek and poke" weren't off-color! ![]() Enjoy! |

We have always been a Windows networked house until about a year ago. I got tired of Windows when Microsoft decided to put 8.0 (later 8.1) on the market. That is when I lost it. I've been with them since the 3.0 days. Like your story about starting with a TRS-80 in the early 1980's I too have been upgrading my machines ever since. Last year was the last for me and Microsoft. We moved the house network and files to Apple. I have to say its been fun as well as exciting to see all the iPad's, iPhones and Apple TV all work seamlessly. As for streaming... that's another story for another thread.
I love how the iPad works with the Amazon apps so I can seamlessly move from my Kindle Voyage to the iPad with no troubles. |

Congrats on the iPad. I have no regrets about having bought mine (though now, I'm considering the iPad Pro). Its serving me really well and the more I use it, the more I want to use it. The only thing is, I do a lot of photography, and I think I'd benefit from the larger screen for that. And then, I'd be quite happy to let my macbook go to someone else. I'd have to keep the mini for the Plex server that runs on it.
In any case, iPad is definitely now easily the best replacement for mobile computing, ever. |

Congratulations! I'm an iPad fan. I've owned four so far and still do.
Love the ease of use. |

I use my iPad instead of using a computer. I love it. I use a keyboard too - the Apple one - and it's great to be able to type quickly. I wouldn't use an iPad if I couldn't use a real keyboard.

The first work computer I ever had was a RS TRS-80. We had three of them at work and used them in the engineering department. Never bought one. I opted to get an Apple II+ instead. I did own the little, tiny TRS-80 Pocket Computer though. Basically a large, handheld, programmable calculator that could run simple BASIC programs. BASIC was a simple MS DOS programming language. It was ahead of its time, and amazingly it had more computing power than the Apollo space crafts had to go to the Moon and back. Too bad RS lost its way years ago and is now little more than a group of phone kiosks. I miss the days in the 1960s when we would go to RS and buy all the parts we needed to fix or build electronics. It used to be a radio hobbyists dream store...not anymore...

We still have a company in the UK that's like that called "Maplins". They sell electronic components and all the tools that an electronic hobbyist could need.

Almost a week using the IPad and I am really liking it. I mostly use it as a mini laptop. I am in love with the Belkin Pro kybrd. And I think what makes the greats part is how the IPhone and the IPad communicate to each other so well. But at least for now I believe I could have gotten a long just fine with 64gigs.
