broken screen - some way of changing the page layout?
Hi!
Today my old Kindle Keyboard fell dramatically and the screen broke, so now I have a permanent white line on top of the screen. It's just wide enough to not show the first line in every page, no matter the text or line size. So I was wondering if there's any way to modify or hack the software on the kindle so somehow luckily it would start showing the text lines lower. I dunno if what I'm asking is stupid or not, as maybe there's some available modification for kindle software that would allow me to do that? Thank you! you can see how it looks in here https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...2020.23.58.jpg Last edited by agesofruin; 11-08-2015 at 02:29 PM. Reason: i don't know how to make the pic look smaller |

You can change the horizontal margins by editing reader.pref, then rotate the screen view to horizontal. That should give you some vertical real estate:
Step 1 Return to the home page on the Kindle. If an e-book is open, the changes will not take effect. Step 2 Connect the Kindle to your computer using the USB cable that came with the device. Windows assigns a drive to the Kindle after it installs the appropriate drivers. Step 3 Press "Windows-X" on the computer and choose "File Explorer" from the Power User menu. Step 4 Click the "View" tab in File Explorer and then check the "Hidden items" box in the "Show/Hide" group to view all hidden files. Important folders on your Kindle are hidden by default. Step 5 Select the drive assigned by Windows to your Kindle and open the "system" folder. Open the "com.amazon.ebook.booklet.reader" folder and double-click the "reader.pref" file. If Windows doesn't know how to open the file, select a text editor such as Notepad from the list of available programs. Step 6 Locate the "HORIZONTAL_MARGIN=" line and change the value of the setting. The default value is "40." To decrease the margins, lower the value -- a good starting point would be "15" or "20." If you change the value to "0," the text will be displayed too close to the bezel. Step 7 Press "Ctrl-S" to save the changes, close Notepad and then disconnect the Kindle from the computer. Step 8 Press "Menu" on the Kindle, select "Settings," "Menu" and select "Restart" to restart the device. The changes take effect only after a restart."] |

You could also use twobob's Scroller -- KUAL extension
It shifts the entire screen over -- you can set it to go down instead of the default: left Requires the jailbreak of course. ![]() |
