Kindle for Snow Leopard
The newest version of Kindle for Mac won't work on Snow Leopard and my old version doesn't work anymore. Is there a version somewhere that does work?

There are a number of places to download Kindle for Mac (apart from Amazon or Apple App Store), and there are definitely older versions out there, but I don't know how one establishes the necessary level of trust to install and use those distributions. Amazon would recommend using Cloud Reader for systems that cannot run current software. |

If you know the version you need, it's easy.
Current PC version: http://kindleforpc.amazon.com/41022/KindleForPC-installer-1.12.41022.exe Just change the version numbers, because Amazon does leave the old versions accessible. So... I assume the same will work for a Mac, the latest version of which is: http://kindleformac.amazon.com/41015/KindleForMac-41015.dmg |

![]() I know Amazon eventually obsoletes older versions, but I thought maybe you knew of a recent enough build which still works on your OS. Didn't think to check/ask for confirmation. ![]() WINE on linux is how I run K4PC (experimental purposes, as I have the E-Ink KT as well). It works fine -- should work on OSX as well, as long as WINE still supports OSX 10.6 Snow Leopard. Last edited by eschwartz; 11-04-2015 at 12:13 PM. |

Well the iMac is just a blind date for Alf. I do have a windows laptop somewhere and Alf is promiscuous about operating systems.

I really wish Apple would use sensible version numbers for operating systems instead of random adjective+noun names. If I hear someone say "Will X run on Plucked Chicken?" I have no idea whether "Plucked Chicken" is a recent or an ancient version of the Mac O/S!

Apple used to be all version numbers, but after the media really caught on with Apples codenames for OSX, they shifted marketing in that direction. |

I think it is time for Apple to go back to using version numbers, as on iOS. I can no longer keep all the version names properly sequenced without doing a web search.

In the linux world:
Ubuntu does the same thing, but at least each release is in alphabetical order. Debian doesn't change often enough to get confusing. ![]() ArchLinux only has the one version, but they provide incremental updates ~dozen times a day. Running old snapshots is not an option, not that there is any fathomable reason to do so. Windows: Spoiler:
Pretty dysfunctional too, if you count four separate naming schemes, the first and last could be thought of as one with interruptions, one of which used names instead of numbers, parallel versions, etc... Granted most of that is long-ago history, and much more popular (read -- we know it anyway from sheer repetition) history. All the current versions are easy to remember, you only need to keep track of two names. But I am pretty sure there are plenty of people who use OSX a lot who can tell you which is which -- they've learned the order. ![]() |

I believe "plucked chicken" is a craft beer.
