Kindle 2 enter button problem
Hello everyone, I've received a used Kindle 2 from someone and the enter button, acts like a delete function not as a confirming one. Can't open things. I'm thinking a software issue?
How to upgrade? On their site I have the option to manually upgrade, transfering the update through usb cable but still needs a action button, like enter to select it. Any idea? Thanks! Last edited by mihail_bc; 10-22-2015 at 02:31 PM. Reason: spelling mistake on title |

There is no enter button. What you are seeing is the backspace/delete character button. You use the 5-way controller to enter a note, etc.

If you push the 5 way to the left you get remove book.
It will be highlighted. Just push in the middle to open the book. |

Just to confirm, you are talking about the centre button of the 5-way controller, yes?
Mechanical switch failure of this controller is common in old Kindle, which is perhaps one reason that Amazon went to touch screens. If the switch has failed, you could try to find a non-working Kindle 2 and swap the keyboard. |

joystick kindle 2
first, I wanna thank you all for helping
I found a picture on the web and uploaded it since its much clearer I'm talking about the joystick button, from right bottom, square one, between Menu and Back buttons the problem with it is: on pressing it in some circumstances it acts like a delete button and when pressing it on Menu/Settings it does not respond, does nothing. I can't access the menu, but the button itself seems to work phisicaly Holding more seconds on power button does not reset the device I suspect a software issue, but don't know how to reset. Anyway it might be custom configured? My model from what I can tell is D00701. Thanks! |

You have the K3.
It is possible since it is 4 years old, that the button is worn out. I thought maybe you were accidentally hitting the left side then the center. Hope you didn't spend very much since you never know how used they are. |

In that case, please correct my post to whatever year it came out. Rest still applies.

To reboot the Kindle, hold the power button in for at least 30s until the screen flashes white.

Before doing this check to see if your friend did a fix for a broken 5 way controller. If he did the S key should work as select.
How to reset the Kindle 2 The Kindle 2 is a second generation Kindle. It is an improved version of the Kindle 1. There are times that you need to reset and restore to the factory settings of your Kindle 2. Resetting the Kindle 2 is usually applicable to unresponsive and frozen devices, and lost data/passwords. There are several steps to do this, and it should not take you 5 minutes to do so. Also make sure to backup all your important data and files before proceeding with the reset procedure. Soft Reset Soft resetting the Kindle 2 is really simple. All you have to do is turn off the Kindle by holding the power button until it turns “OFF”. Once it’s off, wait for a minute for it to boot up. If it does not turn ON automatically, just slide the power button to turn it ON manually. Hard Reset Performing a hard reset on your Kindle 2 will wipe out all user data, so make sure to make a backup of all your files before proceeding. In order for you to hard reset you Kindle 2, all you have to do is slide and hold the power button for 30 seconds and release it then immediately press and hold the home button and wait for until the screen flashes. If done it correctly, The device should reboot itself to its factory defaults within a short time Last edited by janrey; 10-30-2015 at 05:20 PM. |
