Why not? Sometimes it's interessant. Own edits I can open (and compare).

Only moderators can access the edit history of someone else's post.

If someone edited their post, it's because they don't want people to see what they wrote.
Maybe they regretted posting, maybe they fixed some bad grammar/spelling, maybe private information has been removed, etc.

As theducks says, it's a feature of the forum software.

Why should regular members be able to see what the person edited?
Also I would hope no one but moderators could edit my post.
That could be a mess if anyone could edit others posts.
Oh and my last edit was because I mixed up some letters.

As relief: Even yesterday shortly after shutting down the PC I realized the mistake (confusion of calibre and MobileRead themes).

Throughout the day I was jumping around with CSS properties, NCX entries and the like - that stuff is suitable to run you totally crazy.
And then these vast amounts of beer every day, pure habit. Regardless, I also don't understand, it makes you really nice horny.

Okay, I respect the motives why this matter is so arranged with the edits. On the other hand these reworked old posts are not so private, because all these were, albeit possibly only for a short time, already publicly.

I agree totally! That was not even meant.

But these were no retrospective edits, otherwise there would be a Last edited by Cinisajoy ... entry.

"Out of interest" is not a valid reason as far as the Admin board is concerned, for allowing people to see the edit history of another user's posts.


Now, as for privacy, if it isn't a big deal to let other people see the post, rather than editing my post to delete it I usually just add an:

EDIT: ignore this post because _______

or

EDIT: Ninjaed by @______

Knowing when it is okay for edit history to be revealed would require human oversight, rather than always allowing it.

Also, any edit within the first two minutes after a post does NOT show edit history at all.
Very useful for fixing typos.

The post immediately above this was edited within two minutes, to add the last sentence after the fact.

Look, if you put strange or unusual questions and dig deeper, you mostly can learn something new.
From these 2 minutes tolerance period has certainly nobody knew anything except the admins, mods and a few veterans.

I agree 100% with the current regime.

Speaking of editing posts. If I edit a post and while I am in the process of editing the post, someone replies, can I request to have that post deleted because the person has responded to an outdated version of my post?

I don't see why you should be allowed to.

The whole point is that moderation activity should not be drawn in.

By default, users should not be able to examine the editing logs.

If someone quoted you -- well, you still said it, yes?
There is NO WAY to respond to that other than via moderator intervention.

IF what you said was private and should be deleted, a moderator can do that for you.
If not, what are you complaining about?

The process in another forum: When you send your post and in the own interim turnaround time someone else has posted, you will be alerted by a pop-up info.
Then it's up to you to take into account the still unknown post or not.

This overlapping of two post described by @JSWolf happens quite frequently, especially in the 'hot phase'. For the system profs of MR such a scheme would certainly easy to integrate.

Of course nobody may be allowed to request deleting other posts for any reason - except it's an illegal one, but here we're not talking about this.
