Kindle Owners' Lending Library
Hello Folks,
Thanks for your help in my previous thread. I have a couple of other questions, if you have a moment. I read that the Kindle Owners' Lending Library is limited to one book per month. But if I read that book quickly and return it, can I then borrow a different book during that same month? Also, the site says that these books have no due dates. Does that mean that I can keep it on that device forever if I wish? If I do that can I borrow another book during the next month? In other words, can I accumulate one book per month? Or is it strictly one-book-at-a-time? Thanks again! |

So calendar month means you can borrow on in January 1st for example, read it on February 20th and then before February is over you can grab the February loan. If you were to wait until March 1st, then you'd have lost the February loan. You must return the old one to get a new one. 12 books per year total. You do not get to keep any of them. |

I am very disappointed. I specifically checked out my 1 book a month book just so I could listen for free to the audio book. Or buy it for $1.99. Sorry, no such luck. I thought that was do-able, but maybe things changed. Yeah I can do text to speech for the book, but not professional narration, and the audio shows as $7.41, not $1.99. I am irritated. So borrowing no longer counts as a buy? Are they going to start doing that with public library book borrows, too? If a person gets it via KU, I'm sure they can listen with professional narration, but can they buy the audio for $1.99?
This is troubling.... The book in question is Consumed by Fire. I don't want to sub to KU, as I don't like reading in the Kindle app. I read in epub format. |

I checked with a different Montlake title I actually do have checked out and on it it doesn't say anything at all about buying the audio book, just lists a price for audible on the left for like 11.99. I know I bought a audio from a book in the past I had through KU for 1.99. Right now its not even showing anymore on the top that I checked out a book through KU in the past, it used to do that. I don't really use audiobooks so I don't have much experience how it works to much. I bought the outlander audio on sale since I owned the books and they were cheaper. But I can't say about when checking out through KU. Those that offer audio at the same time as the book for loan say so. Most of those are amazon imprints. But you don't own them and when you return the book, they are gone along with the audio. |

Does anyone know if borrowing a Kindle Unlimited book counts towards the Whispersync for Voice discount?
For example, this book is free with KU. It does not have the "narration added" symbol, but it does say "Add Audible narration to your purchase for just $1.99." So if one was a KU subscriber, could they borrow the ebook and then get the discount for the audio book? I have searched Amazon. This is all I found: Some Kindle Unlimited books have synced audiobooks, Whispersync for Voice upgrades, that are not free. You can find all Whispsersync for Voice upgrades, paid and free, by selecting Whispersync for Voice under Refine by on the left side of the Kindle Unlimited browse page. To me that kind of does indicate that the upgrade is available to buy, but it doesn't say if you get the WFV discount. So I would appreciate an answer from anyone who has KU and can try this out. Thanks! |

The answer is 'yes'. 'Add narration for a reduced price of $1.99 after you get this book through Kindle Unlimited.'

I attached a screenshot of what tomsem is talking about. When I hover over the audible narration thingy it says that. I have bought a audio before, months ago from a book that was in KU, but did not have the audio as part of the borrow.
But when I look now under the ones I have checked out right now, I don't get this option, so I guess it depends on the book. The example is also an amazon publisher book, but they don't seem to have the audio as part. But when I click on one I have currently checkout with KU and its also a amazon published, I don't get that hover thing at all. That is why I have been so confused at this thing and I wasn't able to help booklover on it. Like this, I have this checked out with KU right now and like the Thomas and Mercer booklover posted, this is published by an amazon arm, Montlake. But when I look at that popup it tells me since I own both the ebook and the audio, I can switch between the two. Well I don't own either the ebook or the audio, I just have them checked out with KU. So there I do not get any option to buy the book for really any price right now as the audio is currently in my account as a borrow. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...=dp_ku_cen_mbb I attached the example of the popup of the book booklover posted for the popup. |

Everything said above is correct and I want to add just one thing to the current discussion. I does not pay to subscribe to Kindle Unlimited unless you read at least 2 books a month these days. I have been a member for going on two years now and I keep a running total of the cash value of all the books that I get from the unlimited program and I typically get anywhere from $140 to $300 worth of books per month. However please note that it is not uncommon for me for me to read 200 pages per day. An average book these days if I start it at 7:00am Monday morning I will be done with it by lunch time on Tuesday. So far this year I have gotten $1.7k worth of books this year for $100. As they often say YRMV, your results may vary, depenig on your reading speed.

If so, it would be selfish to just leave a book on one's Kindle that one is not reading, especially if it were a popular book. BTW, do they have popular books in the Lending Library? |
