Frozen on "powered off" screen
I bought a used Kobo Aura HD on ebay and I finally have received it today.
My joy didn't last long though because the e-reader seems to be broken. It is permanently frozen on a black "powered off" screen. Switching on, basic reset, nothing helps (and yes, I did plugged it to a power source first for several hours, it doesn't show the charging icon either). Any advice? Is there a way to make it work? |

My Glo was stuck on the PC connected screen after unplugging the USB cable, whereupon it was also unresponsive to any button press and factory resets. I opened the thing and re-racked the battery plug, it then unfroze and did a factory reset on its own.

You'll find the very small pin prick hole at the bottom of the device near to the usb area. I use a paper clip to insert gently into it - and only push until I can feel the depression. |

Yes I tried to reset with a paper clip a few times, no effect. When I try to switch it on (or perform a reset), white led light next to the power buton is binking for a few seconds and that's it, screen remains dead.
I've already contacted the seller, that's the first thing I did. I would prefer to have a working device though. |

By "reset" do you mean a "factory reset"? The steps for this on a Kobo device that isn't booting is:
- Ensure the device is charged. - Hold the power switch in the off position for at least 20 seconds. - Hold the light button down and turn the device in. - Release the light button when the LED starts to flash. If that doesn't work, try it again but hold the switches a little longer. After this, if it doesn't work, then you might need to reimage the internal SD card. Or it could be that the screen is broken. |

I just bought a used touch from a local craigslist-equivalent and similar issue - no power on at all. It sort of worked when it was connected to a charger, but would die instantly when power was removed. Then I noticed the case was popped open a bit near the top.
Removing the back revealed a burst LiPo battery ![]() I soldered an old lithium cell phone battery I had laying around in and it's back to life. $25 for a replacement OEM cell from the 'net. Maybe once this one dies. |

Sounds like a reasonable fix. You might want to keep an eye on it when changing it just to make sure the charging circuitry wasn't at fault for the last pack bursting. Could be very nasty.

Good point. It charged for the better part of an hour from the computer with no ill effects. I'll put it in the LiPo sack tomorrow on a USB charger that can deliver 1500mA and see what happens.

Better safe than realizing that Fire Truck that you're following seems to be coincidentally taking all the same exits and turns you are!

I shut it down and tried to turn on and nothing happens. So i tried charging it but when plugged in no lite lights up. Anyone know what to do or what is wrong with it?

MAY BE SOLVE:
My brother have been using Kobo Touch and he didn't use his ereader for long time and have no charging. I plugged into PC with cable, a green and a blue light we can see, but we couldn't open even we wait long time for charging. Then I used ""XIAOMI 5.1V 2.1A power bank" for charging because it give extra energy I think, after a short time, Kobo Touch can be opened. May be extra voltage solve problem.
