Conversion problem with hyperlinked numbers

1) I have converted a purchased book from AZW3 to mobi simply because the original margins are far too wide. I did not choose any special options when converting. The margin problem was resolved perfectly. I am using a Fire HDX 7 to read the book.

2) The book, a biography, has, in the text, countless hyperlinks to notes in the form of numbers. In the original AZW3 format, the numbers are small, discreet and perfectly acceptable. Using a white background and black text the numbers are a light blue with a blue line underneath. Using a black background and white text, which is what I much prefer, the line underneath is still blue but the text is white.

3) The numbers in the converted mobi book are large and strikingly blue when using the white and black backgrounds. I find them incredibly distracting and intrusive.

4) Does anyone know how I can deal with this issue either by replacing the numbers with something far more discreet or even by eliminating them entirely?

I'm not sure about fixing the mobi but it would seem to me better to fix the margins on the AZW3 since this is a better format to work with. You can open AZW3 files using calibre's editor and then have a look at the stylesheet files to see what's going on.
