Windows 10 <-> 8.1 and Calibre

Windows 10 <-> 8.1 and Calibre 64 bit

I took the Windows 10 upgrade offer. Calibre continued working fine. After a few days useage and research I decided, for privacy reasons, to revert to 8.1. That's when my troubles started.

Various other programs now have similar glitches making them effectively unuseable. I have tried upgrading to latest versions of everything:

As soon as I press the 'add-books' button, a system error is reported and Calibre shuts down. All other features (that I have tried) continue to work normally.

Other programs affected by the aborted Win10 u/grade: Norton Security - will not upgrade or refresh virus definitions; Western Digital Smartware - will not upgrade and existing installation broken.

Any ideas besides giving Microsoft another (in a 30 year relationship) juicy piece of my mind?

@sabretache - MS will probably ask questions like these

Did you take a system image of your Win 8.1 system before you upgraded to Win 10 ?
Did you take a system image of the Win 10 system before you backtracked to Win 8.1 ?
Do you have all your data backed up ?
Do you have installable media for 8.1 should you need to rebuild from barebones ?

To be forewarned is to be forarmed

I took the pending W10 upgrade as an opportunity to upgrade my drive (capacity). The (larger) clone is now in the system and the original is safe in the 'system documents and stuff file box ( I keep a box for each system with all the loose pieces)
It looks like I will wipe that drive in a few more months as W10 is not even close to being a Vista.
