How to remove repeated incremental numbers in books

Hi I have some very old books which have numbers other than the chapters inserted incrementally all across the book. e.g. 22 then 24 then 26 after every other page. Is there a way to edit the book and remove these in one go without having to do it manually.TIA

It would help if you gave an example of the numbering and where they are located.

This happens when someone scans a book, OCRs it, and then converts it without removing page numbers. (I've seen it on Open Library ePubs; while they don't provide downloads on most books anymore, I always used to go for the PDFs because of this.)

As mentioned, regex should help.
