USB Drive mode flaky after jailbreak
So I jailbroke my voyage on 5.6.5, but now when I plug it into my computer and it enters the USB Drive mode, it will go back and forth between that screen and the home screen of the kindle. This results in file transfers between the computer and the device failing or hanging. I see it most when trying to dump a bunch of files in the overflow folder for the screensaver hack (I want some comic strips to randomize through as screensavers), but I get it even with small transfers.
Is this a known issue? Anybody else getting this? Help is much appreciated. |

@thoreau: What do you have installed & enabled on your device? (Because, er, no, definitely not. That's usually more of a hardware thingy, a sign of a bad USB host/target/cable/power, and since the PW2, things on the Kindle's end of things are much better than before).
A look at dmesg (on both ends) might be helpful, too. |

That is an extremly unlikely cause of anything (basicly, its just one more file stored on the system). As highlighted above - you have a lot more going on there than **just** the jail break. It is more likely related to something else that you have done (like, a bad screensaver image, or a bad document, or just about anything other than the JB). So own up - Confess all that you have done to the device. Also, enter: ;dm in the home page search bar (that semi-colon above is part of the command) and then copy out, compress, and attach to your next post the four log files that generates. |

@edo1: Nothing, it (along with everything that came after) has a much saner USB stack than previous iMX-based devices

Everything I've installed on the device since the jailbreak (which was installed after full reset), and even the order I did them in:
KUAL MrPI USBNetwork hack (disabled) Screensaver hack (enabled) Python 2.7 (not sure, thought it was necessary, then realized it was only for the covers option) FONT_RAMP file Backdoor lock hack All by the documentation provided for each hack. And the comic strip screensaver trick is completely within the standard operation of the screensaver hack as I understand it; 100 files in the "screensaver" folder, plus a bunch more in the "overflow" folder, with the "random" option on to allow for the stack to be replenished from that folder. Logs attached. Last edited by thoreau; 08-18-2015 at 11:39 PM. |

Where you having the unstable USB storage mode during the time those logs cover?
- - - - - Try again everything you where doing, only this time in "airplane mode" (I.E: WiFi off). Try to dump the logs soon after the unstable USB storage mode cycles a few times, if it does happen with WiFi off). Last edited by knc1; 08-19-2015 at 02:08 AM. |

What @knc1 said, I'm not even sure there is even a single switch to USBMS in those logs.
Any chance something got nicked/static shocked when the device was open? Last edited by NiLuJe; 08-19-2015 at 06:48 AM. |

And what does the serial port connections / cabling / adapter look like now?
Pics would be nice. |

I'll try doing the logs thing again tonight as instructed. Serial port contacts were never soldered, and no wires were left inside the kindle. It's "stock" right now so to speak. |

Ah, it was a "tape and go" job then?
And I am sure anyone who pries open the most expensive model is extra careful. I'll put my money on a warn-out cable or a worn-out PC, usb socket or a PC, USB-3 socket. (If you do have USB-3 and USB-2 on your PC, always use the USB-2 for the Kindle.) |
