Collections in new Kindle Touch
Hello, everybody.
After my old Kindle Keyboard broke, I have purchased my new Kindle Touch (firmware 5.6.2.1). I have about 45 books purchased on Amazon but I have got most of my books from other sources. I tried to search a solution to create Kindle Collections from these books without using the Kindle device (which would be a huge pain). But I have found nothing. - Kindlian and KDeasy do not work with this firmware. - Amazon for PC does not sync the books in the device that have not been purchased on Amazon. - I saw something about Calibre and Jailbreak but it seems not to work with this firmware (Am I wrong?). I have searched for hours and I found no solution. So, as much as I hate to bother people, I decided to ask here. Do you know anything that could work? Any link? Thank you and apologies for the inconveniences. |

No.
All solutions require jailbreaking and that requires hardware modding on the fw5.6.x devices. If you are interested in trying, there is a sticky and several other related threads which discuss administering the jailkreak over the serial port. Steady hands and an ability to follow directions very closely is a must. Then simply install KUAL+LibrarianSync on your Kindle, and Kindle Collections plugin in calibre. Note: Kindlian and KDeasy don't work for a reason -- they rely on stealing the community work done here. And we haven't found a closed-Kindle jailbreak (yet). Note2: Our hacks are modular -- one jailbreak, a standard "extensions" layout which applications launchers can plug into, and things build off those. So if you can get the jailbreak installed (or preserved during a PW upgrade) things will generally Just Work. Other hacks sometimes aren't as community-minded, so if you cannot install their proprietary jailbreak keys through the only method they support, nothing can be done. All our hacks still work if you use "Super-Advanced Mode" to install the jailbreak. ![]() Last edited by eschwartz; 08-18-2015 at 01:58 PM. |

You may wish to consider using a Calibre plugboard instead of collections. I do this and for me it works well.

Thank you very much for this information. Hardware modding is not for me at all. Very frustrated because there is no solution available but it's better to know it than to waste my time and energy with no result.
I guess it will be the last Kindle I buy. It's incredible that Amazon makes an easy task such as organizing your books that hard. I will look for a reader that has a better organizing features. Thank you for your help. |

As HarryT said, you may wish to try plugboards. It works for some people.
I must confess I vastly prefer collections. ![]() EDIT: Ninjaed by crossposting. The peril of trying to communicate at the speed of IRC, on a forum. ![]() If collections are an important feature for you, you may wish to look into a Kobo. You can manage Kobo collections easily via calibre. |

For me it works well (I have about 2000 books on my Kindle) but of course everyone has different requirements and I appreciate it may not be the right answer for you. |

Harry, point them to the recent thread where you all walked me through how to use plugboards. Harry showed me how useful (and dead easy) it is to have Calibre put a series name and number into the book's title .... thus making most of the collection needs go away.
I still USE some collections "ReadMeNext" "Paid$$" "Done" etc, but I don't really need to. Having the series info in the title makes my world much nicer! Well, I'll point you (Harry is a busy guy, I'm sure). Skim this thread, for all the discoveries I made about how to use plugboards. |
