Kindle EBook Price

I am living outside the US. Whenever I browse ebooks in Amazon from my computer, I arrange them according to prices sometimes, or search a specific title.

Whenever amazon displays the search results, of course Amazon displays the price for the ebooks below the title. But whenever I click the ebook title to go to its page, the price instantly goes up $2-$3 from the original displayed price. Is this a glitch or is it because I browse ebooks outside the US?

Are there extra costs that Amazon incurs whenever they deliver books via Whispersync?

Probably because you are outside the US.

It isn't uncommon for non-American consumers to purcase their ebooks using a VPN, for much this reason.

If I do this method, will it matter if I use a US Credit Card or not?

Yes, Amazon charges $2 or more money to many ebooks that they sell. I have the same experience. The price you see before and after you click into the book links are different. An $2 book can become $4 after you click.

Are there any safe VPN to do this? I am afraid that my info will be stolen.

I've never really looked into which VPNs are the best, sorry.

Of course the logic of this is that someone with a US account would be charged more for an ebook when travelling outside of the US, which is not the case.

The price you are charged is tied to your Amazon account information and not your physical location at time of purchase.

My Amazon account is a US account.

If I go to Amazon when I am in Malaysia (like I am now) it tells me that I cannot purchase eBooks.

It definitely uses where you are, not who you are.

I must use a US VPN in order to purchase eBooks from countries where eBook purchases are restricted by Amazon.

That's interesting. I spend quite a lot of time each year in Egypt (I'm studying part time for a degree in Egyptology) and I've never had the slightest difficulty in buying books from my Amazon UK account while I'm in Egypt.

If Egypt is not a restricted country, you would not have any issues. Sales of eBooks are restricted in Malaysia from Amazon, due to contract issues.

That's the point. Amazon don't operate in Egypt at all. It's one of the countries they won't deliver anything to.
