Calibre won't open OR repair

Won't open, starts a "repair" - "in three stages" then tells me it's failed
Just will not open. Try to direct it to where the library is, but wont even allow a new Library

Windows 10
i5 2500k
4 HDD's
16gb RAM

@PhilK - is it a new Win10 install/upgrade?

I suggest uninstall and reinstall. You won't lose libraries or settings, but Sod's Law might prevail, so best to back them up first.

Uninstall (the normal way)
Then delete the Calibre2 directory in Program files.
(No Calibre2? Then it was a clean uninstall

)

Do follow the tips in the FAQ. The most common is A/V gone rogue.

You need to post an actual error message "it will not open" is not very useful. From your original post, I think you are saying that the metadata.db file in your calibre library is corrupted and the repair is failing. If that is the case simply delete the metadata.db file and restart calibre. Now the list of books will be blank and you can restore it as described here: http://manual.calibre-ebook.com/faq....libre-is-blank

Had another go, removing everything from a search for "Calibre" and it DID this time, but refused to load the library again, just pointed to another folder and started putting the books from the original into that, now back up again ! Cheers, lads
