Free (nook/Kindle/Kobo/DRM-free) Accidentally Amish [Xtian Cultural Drama w/Romance]
Accidentally Amish by Olivia Newport is the 1st in her Valley of Choice series of culture clash drama novels with strong f/m romantic elements set among the Amish religious community, exploring the intersection of "English" non-Amish persons who become attracted to the Amish lifestyle, and Amish persons who similarly find themselves living and working among the "English", this installment setting up the main characters who are a software programmer on the run from some dodginess at her place of business, and the Amish man who gives her shelter in his barn until things are sorted out, free courtesy of Christian publisher Barbour's Shiloh Run imprint.
Though not stated in the blurb, according to the customer reviews, there's a parallel historical story contained within this which is set a few centuries ago among ancestor characters, and while there's a large dose of romance in this, the series does not seem to be primarily romantic as apparently future books focus on their developing relationship and contemplated faith commitments and some other stuff going on with their friends and family, though maybe it's really just a dedicated category romance spread out over 3+ books instead of the usual 1 to achieve the requisite HEA. YMMV. Currently free @ B&N (may also drop in the UK), Amazon (available to Canadians & in the UK), Kobo (not available to Canadians), and ChristianBook (DRM-free ePub available worldwide). May also be free @ iTunes and/or Google Play for the US, where Barbour freebies are sometimes said to also show up (but don't exist from a Canadian perspective, so I can't easily check). Description (the blurb over at ChristianBook is considerably less romance-y but much more spoilery) Escape the helter-skelter of the modern culture and join software creator Annie Friesen, hiding at the home of an Amishman. With her high-tech career in jeopardy, Annie runs from fast-paced Colorado Springs—and straight into the hospitality of San Luis Valley’s Amish community. There she meets cabinetmaker Rufus Beiler, and the more time she spends with him, the more attracted she becomes. When Annie finds she shares a common ancestor with Rufus, she feels both cultures colliding within her. But is her love for Rufus strong enough for her to give up the only life she’s ever known? |
