Calibre crashes in Windows10

I've been happily using calibre for several years. I recently upgraded my laptop to windows 10.
Now when trying to add books OR add a plugin calibre crashes. I'm trying to figure out if it's another file in the directory causing it.

by default calibre goes to the last used folder. If I empty it. I can go there fine.
If there are files in it, it crashes.

I'm thinking maybe windows is trying to read zip/rar files ahead of calibre and crashing.

I'll play around with it tonight.
If anyone has some insight I'd appreciate it.

SO far for me at least, if I browse to a folder, and the only files in it are epub or mobi, it's OK. but if there is another file.... zip, AZW3, PDF, even an ISO file. calibre crashes.
I'm speculating that it has to do with windows explorer, just a gut feeling.

I disabled system integration in spideroak and all is fixed.
