Not a 'newbie' but a senior with 'moments'!!
OK, so, I have used Calibre right from the start of the ebook revolution.
However, I have not kept abreast of all the wonderful things it can do, only those things that were required by me as time went along. I have an extensive library which I have managed quite well as far as I have needed too. Now I am trying to get to grips with putting some of my books onto my devices, preferable in a format (Mobi?) which works with Kindle. I have put the Kindle app on most devices and those which I can connect to Calibre work well, but, my Windows tablet and 'phone are proving a little more difficult as they do not connect directly to Calibre, or at least I cannot find how. I appear to have several 'Kindle' accounts and e-mail addresses, but cannot find out how I can recognise each device as they have named themselves and I havn't a clue which is which. I understand that I have to e-mail the books to the devices via kindle e mail address but can I do this direct from Calibre as this is where all my books are stored. Most are in epub and mobi and the original files are no longer on my computer. That sounds very complicated to me, if so, please feel free to ask me to clarify any points. |

On each pc, the title bar of kindle for pc, when running, shows what silly name amazon is using. So check that, then rename via web site as needed.
I suggest you cycle through all amazon accounts to liberate all you books into calibre. Make a list of accounts. Register k for pc to 1st account on the list, download all purchases, add them to calibre. Drag and drop or use auto add. then unregister that k for pc, register it to 2nd amazon account.... Alf plugin should do its background magic. There is no download all button. So much clicking needed. |

Ps each device has to link to one specific. amazon account. Purchases are locked into the account used to buy them. Each hardware device also has a send to email address. you can unregister and register devices as often as you like. Use calibre to hold a full set of no drm copies and you can send those anywhere you like, via usb, email...
