Add multiple books from archive question

I've been adding some books to my library using the Add multiple books from archive pulldown, using both the one book per directory and multiple books per directory choices based on the archives.
I'm adding from multiple archives.
The question is, after I've added the books from the archive into Calibre, I like to delete the archive, but I can't until I either close Calibre or load another archive. It seems that Calibre holds the archive open. Has anyone else experienced this, or am I doing something wrong for the archive not to be released so I can delete it?

@toomuchreading - What OS are you using, I'll assume Windows. I've not had this in calibre, but I don't normally add books from archives, but in other programs yes.

I just did a test with multiple books in a zip, after the add was finished I was able to delete the zip in my file manager. Did a repeat with a rar, same result. Repeated the experiment with Windows Explorer as the 'file manager', first time I was using xplorer². Didn't do anything special - did the add, waited for it to finish, switch to file manager, hit DEL key on zip/rar and it was gone.

Are you running a non standard file manager (Total Commander, XYplorer...), if so try closing it and use Windows/File Explorer to do the delete.

Otherwise try installing one of the File Unlock utilities, they will tell you whats holding the lock. My favourite is this one ==>> Unlocker 1.9.2

I'll give that utility a try. I'm using windows 7, fully up to date on patches. I use the windows file explorer to try to delete the archives which are in .rar format.
I can do anything with the files, including deleting them, but once I use Calibre on them, they are locked until I load another .rar or close Calibre.
The actual error I get in Windows file explorer is:
File in use. The action can't be completed because the file is open in calibre worker process. Close the file and try again.

I'm also using up to date Win7 - start task manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc), in the Processes Tab sort by Image Name - how many calibre-parallels.exe processes are there. I normally have two

I have the main calibre program and 2 calibre-parallel.exe - calibre worker process, after I load up an archive. It looks the same.

I just realized I forgot to mention that my main rar file has rar files in it of individual books. Calibre loads them all fine. Just hangs on to the main .rar file after the load is done.

Ahh rars in rars - is that one book in each inner rar - I didn't try that

I had a bunch of epubs in flat zips/rars - could you try that to confirm it works

Works for me - no lock ups.

Are you able to unlock the outer rar with Unlocker?

Did all the books add OK, ie any duplicates or other conditions, do you auto convert? Thinking it must be some odd corner case

This may sound like a totally obvious and stupid question but are you sure that Calibre has finished working with the rar, ie the jobs in progress icon in the bottom right corner of Calibre has stopped spinning, before you attempt to delete the rar?

Yeah, Calibre adds all the files ok, and finishes working with the file. There is only one book per inner rar file. The only way to unlock the file is to either load another, or to close calibre. I didn't use Unlocker because I got a virus warning on the download (adware that you can't block from being installed - the developer changed the packaging of the software), so I tried another, which worked without a problem. It showed that Calibre had the file locked, as well it showed that it was one of the parallel processes.
