Started up in 1.42 seconds with 489 books Found device nodes: /dev/sdd1 None None Segmentation fault (core dumped) Regards, Ian Sutherland |

None None just means no mount points were found for card a and card b, which is normal since the kindle has no cards. I suggest you uninstall the Arch distro version and install the official calibre binary from http://calibre-ebook.com/download_linux
Distro's calibre packages are often broken by the package maintainers, so I dont provide support for them. |

Solved thank you in a rather strange manner. I noticed in the systemd journal that the core was dumped directly after a complaint about an AMD Catalyst library. I changed from an AMD to Nvidia card fairly recently, and I had managed to leave a couple of Catalyst packages on the system. Removal of these sorted my problem.
BTW, just to defend ArchLinux, the package maintainers usually do a conscientious job keeping up to date etc. I rarely find anything broken. However, I understand your reasons for prefering people to use the official binary. Thanks for replying, and keep up the good work. |

As a matter of fact, I have an outstanding bug report against the calibre package.
![]() The Arch developers are fairly conscientious... except when they think they are right. They haven't broken simple things like mounting devices, but they have broken conversions and the content server (when using a password). calibre uses internal, patched copies of cherrypy and chardet, and a forked and heavily modified copy of html5lib. System libs rule, apparently. ![]() So for entirely different reasons, you should still use Kovid's binaries. This might be helpful too: Sticky: Fully automatic calibre installer/updater for linux (It is on the AUR as well.) |
