Got My iPhone 3G

Two and a half hours in that *^%$$# line but it was worth it as I walked out with a 16 GB iPhone 3G (plus one for my wife).

So far I like it a lot and have downloaded the free Fictionwise app which comes with a couple of free books and access to the Fictionwise site.

The iPhone is nowhere near as useful or easy on the eyes as the Sony or Kindle but it is very portable and will always be at hand.

You turn the page by sliding your finger across the screen (about an inch) and can adjust the font size.

Yeah, got mine yesterday morning too... Really loving it.

Do you notice that the phone gets hot when the 3g is running (and using something, like streaming music, etc?)

I wish they'd done a 32GB version. Might have considered swapping my 32GB Touch for one if they had. I need the extra space since I bought it primarily as a portable video player.

Hadn't noticed that yet but am still getting acquainted with it. I didn't have one of the original iPhones. But am very pleased with this one.

That's interesting Harry that one should choose a phone for an other purpose than being a phone. This convergence is promising to get wilder and wilder yet.

Is the iPhone avilable in the UK? In Canada it came out this week for the first time. The only provider made it available with insane conditions; mainly operating charges brought by a mandatory three year based contract worth about $2500CD. That is pretty steep for an MP3 player!

I actually have an iPod Touch, which is an iPhone minus the phone. Makes a great video and music player, and also has a superb web browser which works over WiFi.

Yes, it's been available in the UK for a while. Like you, I consider the monthly contract terms to be prohibitive (it starts at £30 - about US$60) a month. If I could buy one as a "pay as you go" phone (which is the way I use my Windows Smartphone) then I might well buy one.

If you get a chance, let me know. Everytime I use the 3g with Pandora or a lot of browsing it gets very, very hot. I need to know if it's just mine or a general issue but unfortunately, afaik, there aren't any great iphone communities like we have one here for ebooks!

Unfortunately, where I live does not get very solid 3g coverage (one tiny bar!) despite AT&T's maps so I can't test it when I'm at home.
