Are these free Kindle editions with or without DRM? The ones from Tor are without DRM.

They are the standard Amazon DRM'd Kindle versions, as far as I can tell.

I removed the URL to the eBook as the links are used to track downloads. If anyone wants, PM me your email address and I'll use Tor e-mail this to a friend link so you can get the links to the PDF, HTML, & Mobipocket versions. The ones Tor gives are DRM free.

How did my linking it prevent them from tracking downloads? Also it would have been nice if you left a note within my post that you edited it.

I left the note in the following post. Given how the forum works, you might never have seen that I edited your post.

And to answer your question, the links given out by Tor are different. So Tor can track downloads based on the different links. The links in the email a friend are not the same as the one you posted and my link in the email I received is not the same as your link.

In regards to the link (which I posted on your behalf since you seemed not to have it because you were asking about it, so you're welcome), you could have PM'd me to let me know about the email a friend deal. I would have made the edit myself to accommodate the download tracking.

JSWolf is correct, the Tor email subscription versions are better (lacking DRM). I provided the link to the Amazon version as a service to those who would rather not get involved with releasing their email address to Tor, or who just would prefer the convenience of the Kindle download.

Given that Tor has continued the newsletter free ebook offer long beyond the original deadline, I would recommend any ereader (person who reads digital books) to join their newsletter.

It is a fantastic deal (i.e. free) and includes great SF/Fantasy screen saver artwork.

Ye Gods I am sticking my nose where it does not belong, but I gotta say.......

I think what Daffy is saying is the courtesy of a personal note before editing her post would have been appreciated and acted upon. Mr. Wolfe's concern was valid, of course, but perhaps could have been more sensitively handled.

If I am not interpreting this correctly, just pretend you never read this....
