Question unsupported characters on Kobo Touch

I searched the forum but couldn't find anything related.

I have a Kobo Touch, model n905C. I'm reading epubs in English, that have words in foreign languages, with unsupported characters or letters - they show up as boxes. Sometimes this prevents me from figuring out what the word is.

Here's an example, (these words are in the Pali language) this is the .epub when opened on my computer:

Here's the same .epub on my kobo:

I'm running software version 3.3.0, is there an update or a revised dictionary or language file I can install?

Thanks,

Damn, that sucks, I updated to the latest firmware version, and now - instead of substituting a box for the unsupported character - it has just deleted the character completely.

That is usually because the font doesn't include the needed glyph. I don't know which fonts might include the needed glyph along with the English ones. Since we are talking India there is likely one available on the net.

Luck;
Ken

Search for Gandhari Unicode. It is free.
Edit: You can find it here.

Thanks very much, Ken Maltby and tshering, that works perfectly. Now I have no excuse for not reading the book and putting it into practice. Peace,
