Lightbulb Free (nook/Kindle) Ask Tom Why: Meteorology, Weather, Natural Disasters [Science Q&A]

Ask Tom Why: Tom Skilling on meteorology, weather and natural disasters by popular WGN-TV chief meteorologist Tom Skilling (Wikipedia), who apparently has a cult following which hopefully he uses for purposes of good and not evil (and apparently has also acquired the obligatory archnemesis), is a collection of his layperson-friendly Q&A pop-science explanation articles on Exactly What It Says In The Title for the Chicago Tribune newspaper, free courtesy of publisher Agate's Digital imprint.

Although a little on the short side, this is nicely informative both in terms of general How Stuff Works™ as well as more specific trivia-type reader questions about the peculiarities of Chicago-local weather.

Currently free, probably just until the weekend @ B&N (also UK) & Amazon (not available to Canadians, but also free in the UK) & iTunes (not available to Canadians). May also be free @ Google Play US, where some other Agate freebies have been reported to show up.

Sadly, Agate seems to have redesigned their website in such a way that it looks like the direct-download PDFs available worldwide to international Gentle Readers will no longer be A Thing®. Oh well, it was nice while it lasted.

And this has been the (late!) selected 3rd (non-repeat) free ebook thread of the day.

Because science! And edutainment! And some sort of bizarre personality cult battle between weatherman and disgruntled weather report watcher. That's like bonus entertainment!

Enjoy!

Description
Ask Tom Why is a collection of articles originally written by Tom Skilling for his Chicago Tribune column of the same name. Skilling, who is WGN-TV's chief meteorologist, answers questions covering all topics pertaining to weather, the sky, and our environment.

Split into three sections, the book covers storms and inclement weather; the sun, moon, and sky; and temperature — all expressed with the authority and accuracy of Chicago's favorite meteorologist. Skilling's nearly forty years in the meteorology field make him one of the most trusted voices in a city known for its erratic weather.

From the mundane to the anomalous, Skilling explains all things weather in a way that is easy for readers of any age to understand. Ask Tom Why is the first collection of its kind, and a fantastic read for weather enthusiasts, and anyone who grew up reading, listening, and watching Tom Skilling.

Hey, cool! Tom Skilling gives a talk every year, held where I work at Fermilab. The talk is about Tornados and wild weather and stuff. Despite it being held right where I work, I've never gone to it, though I hear it's always filled up. Now I can just read the book instead!
