Scheduled news downloads in batch mode
I am running Calibre content server and want to have the news downloads happen in batch mode without having to have the UI open. Is this possible?

In CLI mode:
ebook-convert accepts the *.recipe format and will read the name as the name of a builtin recipe. Convert the recipe to a temporary file and add it to calibre via calibredb add -- then reload calibre-server. Last edited by eschwartz; 06-19-2015 at 11:29 AM. |

Do I have to restart the calibre-server when something has been added. I have a crontab running every 10 minutes that does a calibredb add in a designated folder. Can I have the calibre-server restart on some type of trigger?

Starting in calibre V2 the server automatically notices that the database changed and does a reload.

I have noticed that some of the news feeds seem to only get the TOC but there is no content. Is this because the recipe needs to be updated? Does anybody monitor them and revise them?

Is there any way to get updated recipes that others have updated so I don't have to fix them myself?

What would be the syntax for getting the latest version of the recipes using ebook-convert?

Simply give ebook-convert an input file of "builtin-name.recipe" and calibre will use the builtin recipe.
One of the features of builtin recipes is that they automatically use the latest version (hosted on the calibre website). |

I have several news feeds scheduled to download thru the UI. Is there a way I can have the downloads run automatically without having to leave the UI running on linux. Also, does the scheduler know not to download a news source that is only updated monthly? If not, it there an easy way to determine when a news source is updated?

No -- use ebook-convert with a cron job or systemd timer.
