Calibre questions belong in the Calibre forum, to where I'm now moving this.

No
Think about it ![]() You need to download this topic page to see it. Right? So how can they see your work if you won't let the download it? DRM is what you want, but YOU can't afford to DIY. You need a BPH or large distributor like Amazon that adds it a author $ervice. Note This (DRM) is mostly the first thing Calibre users defeat so they can reformat the work their way. You want security like you state, then put the manuscript in your safe and spin the dials, keeping FAR, FAR, away from the internet |

You could do it by having a Calibre content server serving a library that contained nothing other than a catalogue of your books.

![]() Or create a Calibre Catalog that you could download click the ARROW on Convert Icon: Create a Catalog... ![]() This also applies to the Content Server approach . Preferences: Sharing over the net: Virtual Library to use |

I don't know what OS you are using but there is something called file permission. On Linux and OS X, 744 would do.

Considering that it's called the calibre content server, it's an odd choice to want to use it in a situation where you don't want to serve the content, no?

Hmmm...methinks the intent is to show the list of books but without the "download now" function. This creates a catalog of all the books in your library without allowing them to be downloaded... perhaps displaying ones pride and joy library without violating copyright.
Kovid mentioned there is a re-write of the content server planned (in the works??). A checkbox could be added: "Disable downloading of content". |

Display to who, and why. Who wants or needs to see a catalogue of stuff they cannot download ? Is this some "look what I got but you can't have it" game ?

Who knows? That's the interpretation I got from the OP.
I try not to get into the game of judging someone else's uses based on my own needs. I just ask, 'Is it possible to do without too much difficulty and Will it fulfill a need?' The answer to both of those is "yes". The next question is whether someone wants to take the time and effort to add the coding... |
