Smile Hi, I'm New Here

Hi all. I already have and ebookwise reader which I much enjoy--especially like the left-handed page flip since my right hand is paralyzed. I just ordered an Iliad gen 2. I'm a bit nervous about it since I've heard pros and cons (and because I paid an outrageous sum for it), but I need to be able to read and edit pdf files and other text. (Also looking forward to using mobipocket.)

That's enough about me. I read a lot of your posts here trying to decide what ebook reader to buy (as a guest) and found them very helpful.

So thanks and hello.

Thanks for the welcomes!

Thanks for the welcomes. I love the advice from George Carlin. When I get my Iliad, I'll be sure to say something about how I like it.

Happy 4th.

Curious, do you use a one-handed keyboard with your PC?

Smile I`m new,too!

This old bookie never thought I would succumb to print via radio signals. I must admit my Kindle is great, and makes reading fast and easy. I live in the great midwest: Macomb, Ill home of WIU.

If whispernet was worldwide the kindle would be a more attractive proposition to the non-USA persons. Or at least it would in my case.

I means its a great way to deliver content.

Dear Bob,

Sorry I didn't answer your question sooner. I've been finishing up a document and just sent it out--Yippe!

I use a traditional Querty with a device (I call it a pokey thing) that fits over my immobile hand and strikes the keyboard. I thought of the one handed approach, but couldn't set up my MAC laptop with the right keys for it. I've also heardthat the one hand keyboard keys are hard to learn if you're used to Querty. Have you heard anything about how they are to use? Or firsthand experience with a one handed set up?

Just curious.

Glad you like your Kindle! I love the idea of the available content, but had issues with the way Amazon is Drm-ing. Of course if I got one for Christmas, my qualms would vanish post haste.

Sherry,

I have heard/read they are supposed to be pretty easy to learn. I actually considered getting one for the left hand, so I could type and mouse at the same time. However, it turns out not to be good for a programmer since most of the punctuation is a two key stroke affair.

I was looking at the frogpad. http://www.frogpad.com/ They actually have a bluetooth model now... cool. The following is from their site:

Q: How long will it take me to learn FrogPad™?
A: Think about how long it took you to learn how to properly type on the standard qwerty keyboard. 79% of the population does not touch type. In about 2 minutes with FrogPad™, you will understand the logic behind the patented letter layout. In an hour you will remember where most of the letters are located, Then in about 6-10 hours you can get to 40 words a minute. Keep in mind, children do not go through a semester of typing classes. Children can be trained on FrogPad™ very quickly. And imagine the difference it will make to their posture.

Hmmm... My hubby's right arm is paralyzed and I had not heard about a one-handed keyboard. Since he has no use of his right arm at all, he hunts & pecks entirely with his left hand. I think it might be worthwhile to investigate the Frogpad that Bob mentioned and see if hubby thinks it might work for him. Wonder if they offer a 30-day return policy?
