Talking Free (nook/Kindle/Kobo/iTunes) Snakehead [YA Greek Mythology-Based Adventure Fantasy]

Snakehead by "Ann Halam", which happens to be the YA-writing pseudonym of multiple World Fantasy & Tiptree & Clarke & Philip K. Dick Award-winning British author Gwyneth Jones (ISFDB, Wikipedia), is her standalone YA slightly anachronistic magic realism historical adventure fantasy novel reinterpreting the classic Greek myth of Perseus and Andromeda, free courtesy of publisher Orion's Children's Books imprint.

I've mentioned multiple times in the past how Jones' old "Ann Halam" kids/YA sf/fantasy novels were some of the earliest sf/fantasy fiction reads available from the elementary school library which were a strong formative influence on my long-time love of the genre(s) under the speculative fiction aegis, so it's a major treat to get a still in-print book of hers free which also happens to combine another one of my formative childhood reading enthusiasms, Greco-Roman mythology (thanks to Asterix comics also in the school library).

Currently free @ B&N UK, Amazon UK, iTunes UK, & Kobo (available to the UK, and also seems to be free in most EU countries when I spot-check random stores like iTunes Denmark, but doesn't appear to exist in the same edition in Oceania or North America and is decidedly unfree in the version that's available to Canadians), and probably also Google Play for the corresponding regions.

ETA: now also free for Canadians @ Amazon & Kobo & iTunes & Google Play.

For the purposes of introducing Gentle Readers to Halam/Jones' generally excellent work if you're not familiar with it already and happen to disappointingly not be in a supported locale, I'll briefly mention that Kobo has gotten really, really lax about what country their customers claim to be from (whereas years ago they made you jump through IP proxy hoops just to have a look at prices/availability).

And this has been the selected 3rd (non-repeat) free ebook thread of the day.

Because I cannot explain to you in coherent words how incredibly awesometastic it is to get such an unexpectedly wonderful freebie official publisher promo offer involving the intersection of one of my formative childhood authors and one of my early-obsession reading/research subjects in a still-favoured-above-all-others umbrella fiction genre I was introduced to by both, so here's some interpretive dance:

Incidentally, those Halam/Jones backlist books I posted last year are now no longer KDP Select exclusive and can be had DRM-free along with several more for reasonable prices via Smashwords (and thence also DRM-free and couponable @ Kobo), should you be interested in reading more of her writing.

Enjoy!

Description
Life on Perseus's island of Serifos hangs in a precarious state of balance - the legacy of war - but his own routines are relaxed and calm. However, a beautiful stranger arrives and shatters the peace for everyone. Perseus is smitten, but others are suspicious, for Andromeda has a unique and potentially powerful gift. But she also has a harsh destiny to fulfil. She must die to save her people, and a stunning, word-changing discovery will die with her - unless Perseus abandons all his beliefs to confront the horror of the Medusa quest.

In a mesmerising novel which combines Ann Halam's own skilful blend of magic realism with the rich otherwordly power of a favourite Greek myth, this is a story of hope and survival, and the sheer determination of two young people against all the odds.

Guess what finally showed up free across the pond?

Apparently for Canadians only @ Amazon, Kobo, iTunes, & Google Play since there's still a different unfree edition for our neighbours to the south (and in Alaska). Linkage edited into OP.
