can't connect to internet

I just got a new computer. I had calibre working fine on the old one.

On this one, I'm not able to get it to send email.

I've tried both gmail and another account. I get the same error for both:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "site-packages/calibre/gui2/wizard/send_email.py", line 172, in test_email_settings
File "site-packages/calibre/utils/smtp.py", line 128, in sendmail
File "site-packages/calibre/utils/smtplib.py", line 307, in connect
IOError: [Errno 32] Broken pipe
----------------------

Has anyone seen this before? Any ideas?

Thank you,

Make sure calibre is allowed through your firewall.

remember that firewall and A/V software (and lists) get frequent updates. Sometimes false positives happen and you NOW need to allow manually.

thank you for your responses. i don't have a firewall, i don't think. i do have opendns as a filter for internet consumption, but i don't think that should have an effect because it doesn't on my other computer. i'll run some more tests,

Can't send emailed ebooks - broken pipe

I have this same problem. I am running a MAC with Yosemite and Calibre 2.31. I used to be able to send books via email through Calibre now every time I try to I get an error message like the one noted above noting a broken pipe. I tried turning off my firewall to test and see if it was the firewall. I also updated my Calibre to the latest version and set up a gmail account specifically for sending ebooks via Calibre. Still, no luck. I have also made sure that the email address I am sending from is in my allowed list. Every time it fails with a broken pipe error.

Any suggestions?
