There are no eInk devices running Android 4.4. Simple as that.

apologize.
Coming down to business how many days can last an eink android device in comparison with the two months advertised by the main players?(of course it depends, just would like to know the experiences of the fellow readers) |

When I had my Onyx T68, I was getting about a week on a battery charge, with several hours use each day, compared to the 2-3 days I get from my Nexus 7 with a similar usage pattern. An eInk Android tablet will have a better battery life than an LCD tablet, but nowhere near as good as a dedicated eInk reader.
Hope that's some help to you. |

the turning point would be to see some independent video of kindle, mantano, moon+reader on eink, is strange but on you tube there is nothing! I think your post on working apps on EInk is definetly a really good starting point. User experience based on software overweighs the black and white resolution imo |

If you read carefully, you'll see that the "two months battery life advertised by the main players" is based on a half hour reading per day with WiFi off. That comes out to about 30 hours of reading, provided you aren't using WiFi very much. I have a Boyue T62+ with the Onyx Boox C67ML (Carta) firmware running on it. After eight days of use (reading 1-2 hours per day with WiFi mostly off) my battery is down to about 50%. That's close, though perhaps not quite there.
As for apps, most reading apps were not designed for eInk, as you may know. There is a version of AlReader somewhere on Mobileread that is tweaked for eInk. That works well. Moon Reader works well on eInk, especially if you use the Outdoor theme. The Kindle app works on most eInk devices, but on some, the page turns may look a bit smudgy. Most eInk devices have their native reader apps. I happen to like the Onyx Neo Reader for ePubs. The Adobe reader on Boyue devices also works well. I wouldn't try most games, and certainly no video. But games like sudoku or crosswords should work fine. As long as you keep the focus on reading, and on apps that are largely focused on reading, you should be fine. |

I am a strong proponent of android, I am even writing some software. I guess we should make youtube video of standalone apps running on EINK, so to make the developers more aware of this market. Still I have some issue related to the quality of the Dutch-Eng dictionaries and this is the point... if I do not use wifi with good inbuilted dictionaries android battery shines! I know really well how android is cool as the main battery problems are screen, wifi and apps design. While the screen is not a problem, and the apps are always more efficient (even considering the smart way onDestroyed() is called in the android cycle for apps in background) the main issue remains imo the wifi. let's focus on good dictionaries and Android will be number one. Just I am thinking if the ABVY dictionary are good enough, because I would rather pay for licensed dictionaries than not affordable source ones, if the software allow to use them. So what I think is essential in this thread related to the battery issue is: How Mantano, Moon+reader, Aldiko, ALreader, Kindle manage GOOD bidirectional and Oxford monolingual dictionaries (that appear with a long click on the word with a pop up)? I haven't done much with dictionaries on my T62+, but I agree that there is plenty of room for improvement in how they function.
My device is rooted. However, if you want to change your ROM using the tools in this thread - https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=254042 - rooting is not required. |

1. If you buy the energy Pro, you are buying a Pearl Display. If you buy the Pro+, you are buying a Carta. So if you bought an Energy Pro and they sent you a Pearl, they did their job perfectly well 2. Nobody bought a Pro+ and was sent a Pearl here. Re-read the thread mentionning this carefully please. Didierm (if this is where you think you got your information from) got a Carta. He did not like the quality of it, but it was a Carta. 3. I am a heavy user of dictionnaries with GoldenDict, and am totally happy with the way they work on Android once you understand how to implement them and how to tune them. There is actually a pop-up when I mark a word, and I can choose in which order the dictionnaries are chosen to show the definition. 4. Your OP is incredible. There are TONS of threads/posts on this subject in this subforum !!!! ![]() Why don't you Quote:

On my T62+ clone from Energy Sistem I currently get around 20-30 days of standby with about 30mins of reading a day on 2-4 full bars of backlighting. The wifi is also on constantly, so I'm sure I could get 30 days consistently with it off. Certainly it isn't as impressive as a typical E-Reader, but the additional flexibility and not being tied to one store is a good plus. For me charging it every 2-3 weeks is totally fine.
I rooted my device as there was terrible drain without being able to freeze some system applications (2-4 days max. standby). The main culprit for whatever reason on the Energy Sistem rom for me was Google Drive or Gmail, I never unfroze either to find out which one. The other odd thing was they didn't show up under wakelocks or alarms so I have no idea why they caused such a drain. I also limited my CPU to the minimum. The kindle app was particularly slow, so I would suggest avoiding that as it probably will drain battery as CPU works harder. Another reason for rooting was to hide the status bar in apps other than default one as the expected behaviour in "fullscreen" mode does not occur. |

People live places where they can't recharge their battery devices more than once a month?
Solar charges are available. http://www.ladyada.net/make/solarlipo/ I guess if you live where there's no electricitiy and no sunshine you have to learn to peddle a bike. Last edited by patrickt; 06-29-2015 at 07:38 PM. |

![]() ![]() So first of all thank you to be so open, I truly believe in constructive and sincere feedback 1)see item 2. 2) Yes I was referring to Didiern, I apologize you are right, I did not read all the posts but stopped he was disappointed by their Customer Service. 3) Golden Dict? never used looks interesting, thanks I will give a try indeed 4) True, as developer I am used to stackoverflow where research come up in the stack because of the votes, I love this forum but find really time consuming going through 5+ pages to find an info, so sometimes I prefer to start new threads, this is a bad approach I apologize as in some ways is unrespectful for the other users.I f everybody would doing would be a chaos. Point taken on this one! Not to justify but I am starting new topics because I am conviced we are almost there with the "definitive ereader" android is the way indeed Working/studying as jr developer on the night/weekends and corporate analyst every morning does not give me too much time to go deep in the eink subject especially because (unfortunately) I do not work on that field I am just a reader addict that living in Amsterdam do not have space for bookshelves, so sometimes I am too fast in my judgments, do not give the due attention to the English grammar, and start new posts too abruptly. You are right, will try to start less of them but the point is that as user I am frustrated by the fact still does not exist an ereader that cover all the features I need, although the technology is already there since ages and a minimal effort by sw developers could be made( for instance yesterday I was so surprised that in the kindle ios once you filter all the results of the highlights per color, there is not one soft key to go back to the highlights page filtered... that for a programming point of view is really a trivial function of three rows: an explicit intent and a loader interface) Regarding the youtube video to be a bit sharp ![]() I don do it personally for a simple reason, still I do not own any android eink device, because I do not feel satisfied with the existing ones. But after our speech, I have a clearer track ereader pro+ with Golden Dict, ASAP will go deep in this mini project to understand if it is a workable solution for me( ![]() Well that's all folks, said that compliments for your attention to the forum, and your beautiful avatar |
