Problem opening DRM books on Kobo touch

I used the latest ADE 4.0 to load 2 books from my public library onto my Kobo Touch.
Both my iMac and my Kobo are authorized with the same Adobe ID.

However, when I try to open either book I get the following message :-
Oops! This document couldn't be opened. This document is protected by Adobe Digital Rights Management (DRM) and is not currently authorized for use with your Adobe ID. Please sign in with the authorized Adobe ID and try again.

I tried deauthorizing my Kobo and tried again. But I got the same message again.

Can anyone help me?

As they're library books, I can only suggest Adobe, Kobo or the library's technical support.

Here's some info from a Kobo employee that might help:

Quote:
Some information if you have experienced or heard reports of this problem:
  • Some customers were experiencing an issue with Kobo eReaders (and other brands) wherein they were able to copy Adobe DRM books to their device, but not open them.
  • This was due to an authorization compatibility issue introduced in Adobe Digital Editions 4. Adobe has released a new version of the software that resolves this issue.
  • Customers who are currently in the bad state can upgrade to ADE 4.0.2.103411 or newer and reauthorize their device (instructions below). No need to uninstall the previous version or re-copy any books.
  • Customers who authorize their device using ADE 4.0.2.103411 or newer will not experience this problem.
Notes:
  • The download site still refers to Adobe Digital Editions 4.0.1, but you will actually be downloading 4.0.2.103411 or newer.
  • If you need to check the version number:
    • Mac: Adobe Digital Editions menu > About Adobe Digital Editions
    • Win: Help menu > About Digital Editions

Instructions:
  1. Go to http://www.adobe.com/support/digital...downloads.html to download Adobe Digital Editions 4.
  2. Find and open the ADE installation file on your computer.
  3. Follow the onscreen instructions to install ADE on your computer.
  4. Re-authorize your Kobo eReader.
    1. Connect your eReader to your computer.
    2. Tap Connect on your eReader.
    3. Start Adobe Digital Editions.
    4. Next to Devices on the left panel, click the gear icon, then click Erase Device Authorization.
    5. In the Device Authorization window, click Erase Device Authorization, then OK.
    6. Next to Devices on the left panel, click the gear icon, then click Authorize Device.
    7. In the Device Authorization window, select your AdobeID and click Authorize Device, then OK.
    8. On your computer's desktop, right-click on KOBOeReader, and click Eject.

Hi, Peter,

I checked that the Adobe Editions I have on my iMac is indeed ADE 4.0.2.103411. Should I still re-authorize my Kobo Touch?

Nothing to loose in trying that.

Do you have the correct time and timezone set on the Touch?

I would try using ADE 1.7.2 and re-download the books just to be sure. I have also had a few cases with library books where the downloaded book was just empty (and naturally wouldn't open) — check to see that's not the case with your books.

I downloaded ADE 1.7.2 and tried downloading the book. I got the following message :-
Problem with document's license:
E-ADEPT-CORE-ACTIVATION-TOKEN-SIGNATURE
Document is licensed for a different user account

What do I do now?

Is it because I uninstalled ADE 4.0.2.103411 before installing ADE 1.7.2?

Did you remember to authorise 1.7.2 with your Adobe ID?

I don't understand. You're saying that you did authorise your copy of Adobe Digital Editions 1.7x installed on your iMac? And that it wouldn't open a book downloaded using a copy of Adobe Digital Editions 4 authorised with that same Adobe ID?

That would be very peculiar indeed, and if true would make me wonder whether you had downloaded from a server that's using Adobe's new encryption scheme.

Do you still have the .acsm file? If you do, opening it up in a text editor and posting the contents here will let people check this possibility.

Found it.

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to give the info I wanted. I can tell it's Content Server 4 (4.1.2 in fact) so it might have the new DRM enabled, but I can't tell if it has. Sorry.

[EDIT]
No! It's ACS 4.2 that has support for the new DRM. 4.1.2 can't handle the new DRM scheme, so that's not your problem.

I can't think of any reason why (if you had authorised your ADE with your Adobe ID before opening the .acsm file) that you cannot now open it in ADE 1.7.2 with the same Adobe ID.
