How to refresh books.db?
Is there a way to refresh the books.db everytime I add a new cover to a book, so that it updates the thumbnail?
I've been doing it the hard way: deleting the books.db and waiting ages for everything to rebuild. This also deletes all my collections. I have SQlitespy if that helps, just a command, or something that would refresh the database without having to delete it, to reflect new book covers. Thanks in advance. |

You're looking in the wrong place to do this. I think this can be done directly on the reader without touching the books.db database.
In Explorer locate the 'database' folder on the T1 and then open the 'cache' folder, followed by the 'books' folder. In there you will see a folder for each book on the reader. The folder name equates to the '_id' field in the books table in the db. The numbered folders contain yet another folder called 'thumbnail' which in turn has a copy of the cover jpg/png in it. I haven't tried this, but I can see no reason why you can't either delete the existing graphic thereby forcing the reader to add it again or copy your new cover file into the relevant book's folder. You should take a backup of everything on your reader before you try this, so that you can restore things if my suggestion doesn't work. And the same procedure will apply to a microSD card if you've got one installed. Hope this helps. |

Thanks for the tip. I tried it...deleted the main_thumbnail.jpg from the cache folder, restarted the T1.....except it didn't generate a new thumbnail image from the new cover of the epub - on the screen it shows a generic picture of a book in place of the thumbnail.
I worked around by creating my own thumbnail and putting it in the thumbnail folder, renaming it to main_thumbnail.jpg. It seems that the T1 won't automatically generate a new thumbnail for an edited cover unless you delete the books.db file, forcing it to rebuild everything and losing your collections in the process. So I conclude I've got to do it manually which is just one extra step. Last edited by bremler; 05-02-2015 at 01:44 AM. |

No need to delete the .DB file.
Just delete the book (using the Sony) and add it again. |

Powering off/on or using a soft reset should refresh the DB
