Thumbs up Free (iTunes) Lonely Planet's Guide to Pride: 20 Cities & Celebrations [LGBT Travel]

Lonely Planet's Guide to Pride: 20 Cities & Their Celebrations by Lonely Planet is the popular travel guide maker's globe-trotting LGBT-friendly locales guide to Exactly What It Says In The Title, free courtesy of publisher Lonely Planet.

This is the iTunes store's supplementary featured free book in their top rotating banner in many regions, as apparently June is officially LGBT Pride Month in the US (Library of Congress page).

While this is a bit on the pamphlet-y side (the worldwide cities' entries consist of some backgrounder info and "fun facts" and a few recommended places to stay and eat and sightsee) and is kind of a glorified infomercial for LP's full regional travel books akin to their regular samplers, it's well put together and seems like a handy quickie guide to the main attractions of notable LGBT-friendly places, for those Gentle Readers needing to take such precautions into consideration when planning their vacations.

Currently free, probably at least throughout June @ iTunes (available to Canadians and pretty much every region worldwide I spot-checked that has an iTunes store).

This is a 50 meg Made for iBooks format file (no multimedia content inside) which will require a compatible level of Mac/iDevice to read (requirements on the listing page), and thus seems unlikely to show up in the other stores just yet, at least not until Lonely Planet has done whatever conversion they need to for Kindle's print replica format or that Kobo tablet-only filetype or whatever.

And this has been the selected 3rd (non-repeat) free ebook thread of the day.

For obvious reasons.

Also, I'm pleased to see that Canada snagged a full 10% of the recommended cities involved, which puts us in front of any non-continental country that isn't the US. Admittedly, Australia ties us with their 2 cities, but they're also a continent.

And surprisingly, Vancouver's Pride parade apparently gets more than twice the turnout that Toronto's does. I'd have thought it would be other way around, given the respective population numbers and the fact that the write-up called Toronto's parade "one of the world's largest" whereas ours was merely "Canada's biggest". I guess that's just their way of phrasing a flattering-yet-accurate complimentary description for both places.

Enjoy!
