Smile Hello Boxtor. Could you tell us something about M97

Hello Boxtor,

I owm a Onyx M90 with the last 1.7 firmware and I am planing to update to another 9.7 ebook. But I do not like the screen resolution of boox M96, it is almost the same screen since the first launch of the M90.

Could you tell us something about the incoming M97, will it has stylus and another different screen resolution?

Best regards and thank you .

Hi espinosa00011, our M96's screen is the only component on this devices with good quality. the screen is good but its driver is awful. For instance, the screen resolution over 20141013 firmware is really good but over that rom the device is laggy because the rest of components are rubbish. Best.

Hello,

As far as I know the resolution of M96 is 1200×825 as in my M90 and the screen should be the same. The new ereaders kindle voyager, onyx i86 have more resolution in smaller screens and the clarity of the text is better.

Best.

Your are right, we have better options for an ereader but the current screen is good enough for being used professionally. I use it every day for reading scientific papers and my eyes don't suffer eye-strain. The quality of a screen depend on not only in resolution but also on flicker, refresh, sharpen, etc... that traits are responsible of eye-strain. So, with 1200x825 resolution and good drivers it is enough. Over M96 the problems are in the hand of Onyx developers and designers, they produce high price rubbish, but at least the screen is good enough.

In the case of i86 the screen is less white than our M96 screen, that the reason I prefer my M96 because the screen whiteness is the most for reading.

9.7inch Onyx has been recently updated by M96C in January 2015.

I think next could be 13inch from Onyx.

Also, M96C's screen is not as white as M96, the reason is the capacitive system which includes an extra layer that darkens the screen. The electromagnetic screen are the best for reading right now. Regards.

Hello,

I do not see the M96C an update, I prefer the stylus for underlining and writting in technical reading. The best thing would be both ones, capacitive touch and stylus for writing and it is possible because there are tablets with both functions.

I agree that the screen is good, in the case of my M90 is also white and I see i86 more grey. But I would prefer a white screen with more resolution. From M90 to M96 there is not a big change in hardware (under my opinion), the chande is in software, from what I supposse is a small version of linux (in my M90) to android.

A good 13 inch ebook would be nice to, if not overpriced.

Best,

I've had M96 and M96C side-by-side, and the difference in background brightness is barely noticeable. I sold the M96, as I strongly prefer a touchscreen.

You are talking about screen whiteness on the basis of Youtube videos or you have actually compared them in real ?

Technically, the capacitive screen include one more layer that darkens the screen. I can compare this fact because I have a T68 and a M96C and a M96. From an operational view point the best for reading is the M96, the stylus is more useful for reading and annotations on PDFs than the capacitive screen because the M96C screen is less reactive than a normal capacitive touchable tablet screen.

According to the specifications given, i86 has IR touch screen which will not add any additional layer. I have M92 and I like reading general books on large screen. Using stylus for accessing dictionaries or page turns is a bit cumbersome. I would prefer touchscreen. I will get an i86 for reading casual books and for scientific documents, i will use M92

Both M92 and i86 screens are using Pearl technology, so screen whiteness should be comparable.
